About to abandon Tempurpedic... need advice on a Florida purchase

Phoenix is it possible, for the bed that you choose at the show room to be different from the bed that was delivered as in Dameons case? This really scares me. After all of his in depth research and finally finding a bed, he gets it home and says it is not what he tried in the show room. How is a consumer supposed to be able to trust that what you see is what you get? Thanks, Anna

Hi Sexzgal3000,

It’s always possible that a manufacturer makes a mistake in the build of a mattress but this isn’t common with a better retailer or manufacturer.

Outside of an actual mistake in construction or delivery … all new mattresses will also be a little firmer when they are new and will generally go through a break in process over the first 30 - 90 days or so where the foams in the mattress lose any of their “false firmness”, the materials settle, and the cover becomes less “stiff” and stretches a bit. Most floor models will already be broken in (you can check to see how long they have been on the floor) so a new mattress will generally be a little firmer than a mattress you tested in the store.

It’s also possible that someone doesn’t test a mattress as carefully and objectively as possible in the showroom (using the testing guidelines in the tutorial post) and testing a mattress only for “subjective comfort” without approximating your sleeping conditions as closely as possible can be misleading and can be quite different from what you experience when you actually sleep on it.
