Arctic Dreams Cooling Gel Foam Mattress

Firstly - fantastic site. The thoroughness with which Phoenix answers questions - or perhaps more appropriately - guides members to find their own answers, is both impressive and reassuring. Spent a lot of time reading and learning - much to ponder for the replacement of our king mattress in the near future.

For now, I have just pulled the trigger on Dreamfoam’s Arctic Dreams Cooling Gel mattress for my teenage daughter. My decision greatly helped by the many posts on this site. A quick chat with Chuck pointed me towards the 8" mattress, and whilst it is at the lower end of their range, I am optimistic that it will be a good fit for my daughter. The 10% cyberweek discount Dreamfoam is currently offering didn’t hurt either. :stuck_out_tongue:

Will update this post with our thoughts after a few weeks use as I know the posts by other members have been a great help to me, so hopefully can do the same for someone else.

Hi bigshadow,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum!, and congratulations on the new mattress for your daughter!

Thank you very much. I’m glad I could be of assistance. And very well put about guiding members to finding their own answers.

As you’re aware, Dreamfoam is a member of this site and I think highly of them. The Arctic Dreams represents one of the better values in budget-priced mattresses.

I’ll look forward to your (and your daughter’s) comments on the new mattress once she’s had a chance to sleep on it for a while.

Update after 1 month of use…

Firstly, and most importantly, my daughter is thrilled with her new mattress. You can only imagine the improvement over a low-end 8 year old Serta innerspring.

The mattress regained its shape quickly after unpacking - even after having been kept in the box for almost 3 weeks. No odor to report, and my daughter was sleeping on it 10 hours after unboxing. It is definitely on the firm side of medium firm, but with just enough give to be comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised at the stiffness of the sidewalls when sitting on the edge of the mattress - I was expecting them to sag much more, but they hold up well.and rebound quickly.

If I had to find a criticism - my daughter does find the mattress sleeps slightly warmer than her old one, but she is happy to deal with that and adjusts her bedding to compensate. We’ll see if that becomes a bigger problem in the summer.

Overall, very pleased with the purchase and service received from Dreamfoam. Its early days, but seems like a great mattress at a very good price.

Hi bigshadow,

Thank you for the detailed update, and I’m happy that your daughter is enjoying her new mattress.

As compared to her old mattress, she may sink in a bit more and that would leave a bit more material to “insulate” her. Additionally, her old innerspring mattress can flow a bit more air through the area that the springs occupy where an all-foam mattress will not have that area. Adjusting her bedding, as you mentioned, is usually a simple way to compensate for this.

I’m looking forward to any future updates and I’m glad you’re happy with the service from Dreamfoam.
