Best Memory Foam Mattress, Expert Advice to Choose

I researched the best memory foam mattress as i have been struggling with finding comfortable sleep and dealing with occasional back discomfort. i have been experiencing tossing and turning at night, waking up with stiffness, and feeling like my current mattress just isn’t supportive enough.

Siena 8” Twin Mattress - Memory Foam

EGOHOME Full Size Memory Foam Mattress

however, i am having trouble deciding which one would be better for me and i would love to get your expert advice and hoping maybe some mattress experts or people who’ve switched to memory foam on this forum can also share their advice.
i usually sleep on my side and sometimes on my back, and I need something that offers good pressure relief but doesn’t feel too soft. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The best viscoelastic memoryfoam mattress is @Tempflow’s memoryfoam mattress.

Better at heat dissipation than Tempurpedic and they can customize it for you if needed. Additionally, they continue to use the original 5lb+ density viscoelastic memoryfoam.

Plus the have their patented air flow transfer system so you dont feel like you are sinking in hot lava quicksand.

Thanks for the recommendation, Maverick — I’ve heard of Tempflow and I agree they’re known for high-quality materials and customization. The airflow system and higher-density foam definitely sound appealing, especially for people who tend to sleep hot or want a fully tailored setup.

That said, for someone like me who’s trying to improve sleep and reduce back discomfort without going into a very high price range, I’m also looking at how these mattresses perform in everyday, real-world use for side and back sleepers. Not everyone needs a fully custom mattress, and budget-friendly memory foam options have come a long way in terms of pressure relief and support.

Between the two I mentioned, I’m leaning more toward the EGOHOME memory foam mattress because it seems to strike a better balance between firmness and comfort for side and back sleeping. A lot of users mention good pressure relief around the shoulders and hips without that overly soft, sinking feeling, which is something I’m trying to avoid. It also seems to do a decent job with temperature control compared to older-style memory foam.

The Siena looks solid as a basic option, but I’m a bit more concerned about long-term support and how it holds up for someone dealing with stiffness and back discomfort.

I totally get that premium brands like Tempflow are on another level, but for people who want noticeable improvement in sleep quality without spending thousands, I think these mid-range memory foam mattresses deserve consideration too.

I’d love to hear from others who’ve switched to memory foam recently — especially side or combo sleepers. Did you go with a premium custom mattress, or did a well-reviewed memory foam option end up meeting your needs?

Sort of to Maverick’s point…the mattresses you’ve mentioned in the very low budget range aren’t likely to be supportive for very long. However, if you’re really in a budget bind, there are a few ways to go.

You can get a cheaper but firm innerspring mattress which is likely to last quite a while given that springs are rarely the weak link when it comes to durability, and then get a memory foam topper. So, when the time comes that it’s buckling and no longer supportive, you only have to replace the topper.

If that’s not appealing to you, though, and you’d really like an all in one memory foam bed…please let us know your max budget so we can help find comparable but possibly more durable options for you!

After almost a year of poor mattress decisions, I discovered Comfort Option. Each layer is customized for your needs. The customer service has been outstanding and I couldn’t be happier!

It sounds like you’re at a crossroads between two budget-friendly Amazon favorites. Since you are a side and back sleeper dealing with stiffness and discomfort, you are effectively looking for a “Goldilocks” mattress: one that is soft enough to cushion your shoulders but supportive enough to keep your spine from sagging.

Here is a breakdown of your two choices, plus a professional recommendation that might solve your back pain more effectively.

1. The Siena 8” vs. EGOHOME

  • Siena 8” Memory Foam: This mattress is generally considered Firm. For a back sleeper, that’s great for support, but for a side sleeper, it can be problematic. An 8-inch profile often lacks the deep “comfort layers” needed to let your shoulder sink in. This can lead to the very stiffness and pressure points you’re currently battling.
  • EGOHOME Full Size: This usually has a Medium to Medium-Soft feel. While it’s more comfortable for side sleeping initially, lower-priced foams can “bottom out” or lose their resiliency quickly. If the support core isn’t strong enough, your hips will sink while you’re on your back, causing lower back strain.

2. My Recommendation: The Tempflow Original

Since you specifically mentioned struggling with back discomfort and stiffness, I highly recommend looking into the Tempflow Original. It is designed specifically to bridge the gap between “too hard” and “too soft.”

Why it fits your specific sleep style:

  • The 3-inch “Flex Comfort” Layer: Unlike the thinner layers in budget mattresses, this 3-inch high-density foam provides the deep contouring a side sleeper needs. It allows your shoulder to be cradled without hitting the hard base layer.
  • 7-inch Channeled Support Base: This provides the “Medium-Firm” feel you’re looking for. It offers a firm foundation that keeps your spine aligned when you’re on your back, preventing that “stiffness” caused by poor posture.
  • Active Cooling: Tossing and turning is often caused by heat. While Siena and EGOHOME use “passive” gel foam, Tempflow has a patented Airflow Transfer System that actually circulates air through the mattress.
  • Customization: One of the best perks is that they offer a 120-night trial with free customization. If you find it’s not quite right, they can adjust the firmness for you rather than you having to return the whole bed.
