Can you clarify what you mean? The only “pattern” that would change if you flip a layer end to end would be an asymmetrically zoned layer.
Another option to consider would be a 1" layer in the center third of the mattress under the top or second layer which would create a firmer zone in the middle third of your body where most of the weight is (there is more about zoning in post #11 here and in post #2 here).
This makes sense to me.
