Brooklyn Bedding Best Mattress Ever

I purchased the medium firmness for a Brooklyn Bedding mattress, and it proved to be very comfortable. I’ve had it for a 6 months and am very pleased with it. As someone who liked to lean a little bit on the softer side, it was nice that “medium” had a comfy feel while also providing support. (As a side note, I really enjoyed their pillow as well.)

Hi Trinculos,

Thanks for taking the time to share your comments and feedback after 6 months … and congratulations on your new mattress as well

Hi everyone,

I’ve had my brooklyn bedding mattress for a few months now and absolutely love it. After a month or so of research, side by side comparisons, multiple review sites, and half a dozen mattress store visits we settled for brooklyn bedding. There was a great sale going on and we got a queen size mattress and two pillows for around $725. The biggest down side is that this mattress is 20 to 30 pounds heavier than the competition but they do not skimp on shipping and the delivery person actually lugged the box up 3 flights of stairs for us. I had to bring it up to our loft space myself but it’s a very manageable weight and size for your average guy. Unboxing the mattress on the loft was a breeze and it was good to go minutes later. This can’t be beat for the price. Paying 3x for a tempurpedic and the like is just silly. I tested multiple expensive mattresses and can’t feel a noticeable difference. My old roommate dropped almost $3k on his and it’s heavier, bulkier, hard to move, and arguably is not any more comfortable for your average sleeper. I’ve also tried some $300-400 mattresses from discount sites like woot but they are stiffer and flimsy from my experience. Good for a guest bed, but not what I’d sleep on nightly.
Tl;dr: Brooklyn bedding mattresses are the best bang for your buck in the online mattress world and absolutely blow the competition out of the water in the mattress retail space. Try them out because if you hate it, you can send it back, but you won’t.
Feel free to send me any questions you might have. Cheers.

Hi Yuriychi,

Congratulations on your new mattress as well

Our conventional mattress had reached the end of its useful life. It had a five year warranty and started sagging/being uncomfortable right around the five-year mark so it was time to shop around for a new mattress.

Given that we hadn’t been thrilled with any of our previous spring mattresses, I convinced my wife we should give an “alternative” foam mattress a try. After all, the top foam brands all had generous, risk-free trial periods so we figured we didn’t have anything to lose.

The first thing we did was to make a list of all the brands we had seen advertised and heard about from friends. That list consisted of:

Casper
Tuft & Needle
Leesa

Then, we talked to each of our friends who had recommended these brands to us about their experience with them. They all really enjoyed their mattresses, so we turned to Google for more opinions.

What we found was a whole lot of contradicting opinions. But, luckily, what we also found was an introduction to additional brands. One of those happened to be Brooklyn Bedding and its #BestMattressEver via a Sleepopolis review. We liked what we read. Not only via the reviews, but also via the content on their site. It was clean and well-organized, making it easy to get the answers to our questions, e.g.: What type of foam? Loopholes that would negate a “risk-free” trial (there were none)? Warranty and how hard it would be get them to honor it (comparable guarantee and seemingly similar process to the other brands we were considering)? How firm is “firm” and what would be the best choice for our sleeping styles?

Rather than agonizing about the decision for another couple of weeks over which mattress to choose, Brooklyn Bedding happened to be running a St. Patrick’s day promotion so we went ahead and made the purchase and selected a “Medium”. Our plan was to try it out and if we didn’t like it, return it and move onto our second choice brand that we had come across during our research (Yoga Bed).

It arrived per the promised delivery schedule, was easy to unpack, expanded to its full capacity overnight, and was ready for us to try out the very next day. We had read online and heard from our friends to expect to have some back stiffness and/or aches in the morning due to a typical adjustment period moving from a spring mattress to a foam mattress. Much to our delight and surprise, that was not the case. It could just be that our previous mattress was so terrible, but we woke up ache-free and refreshed. We thought that the adjustment period might come the following night or some time after, but we’ve been sleeping on this wonderful mattress for over 100 days with nothing but good things to say about it.

Needless to say, we’re past the 100 day evaluation period, but I was ready to find a flaw–anything. My main fear was that it would “sleep hot” as I had read online foam mattresses tend to do. But that hasn’t been the case. Turns out, we love it. It’s the perfect amount of plush for us, not too squishy so that you feel like you’re drowning, but not too firm so that it feels like there’s no enveloping give.

Of course mattress preference is very personal and particular, but if you’re in the market for a foam mattress, we’d say definitely put the #BestMattressEver on your list of consideration.

Hi jsamson,

You can see my comments about the Sleepopolis Site (and many other similar so called “review sites” which are really just revenue sites that know little about mattresses or mattress materials) in post #11 here and in posts #4 and #6 here but the good news is that you ended up buying a great quality/value mattress in spite of the somewhat questionable information there.

Most importantly … congratulations on your new mattress

My Tempur Pedic was approx. seven years old, and had lost all resiliency. When I lay on it, the mattress ‘hammocked’ and it was time to get a new one. I looked at memory foam and latex mattresses, and decided to go with latex for a firmer and cooler sleep.

I looked at various online mattresses:
Casper
Tuft & Needle
Leesa

and based on reviews I saw online settled on the Brooklyn firm mattress. I’ve had this for about four months and am very happy with this. It’s holding it’s shape, and supports my weight very well. It was easily 1/2 the price of other memory foam mattresses, and well worth what I spent. Delivery went smoothly, I was informed of the delivery date in advance., and experienced no issues. It was easy to cut open the plastic wrap, and let the mattress expand. It seemed heavy bringing the rolled up mattress up the stairs, but it’s actually much lighter than my old Tempur Pedic mattress.

Based on my experience with the ‘firm’ Brooklyn bedding, I would recommend it. I just had a friend order one a few days after mine was delivered.

Hi Dewey,

Congratulations on your new mattress as well :).

It’s good to hear that you are sleeping well on your new mattress and now that you are past the initial break in and adjustment period and with the durability of latex you should be sleeping well for many years to come.

I have now successfully slept on the BME for 1 year! I will never go back to any other mattress. I never wake up in back pain anymore even though I have a bad back. I sleep better than I have in years and I would recommend this mattress to anyone. I have two medium twin long mattress that were put on an adjustable bed frame. Love, love, love!!! I am now 64 years young and wish I had this years ago…

Hi clamend,

Thanks for taking the time to share your comments and feedback after a year … I appreciate it.

It’s great to hear that you are sleeping so well on your mattress

Purchased a King sized medium mattress from BB about 3 months ago. It arrived on time and in great shape. What an easy way to purchase a bed, no showroom shenanigans!

Was able to quickly get it in position and remove it from the packaging and let it “inflate” for an hour or so before using. Was concerned it might smell but happy to say there was no odor issue at all.

Love the fabric and design and our deal came with pillows as well.

As for the performance now that we have had some time. The bed is a great value for the money. As I get older, I find I appreciate a plusher experience and this mattress is not plush by design, however we are very happy with the quality and firmness without being hard. Support is great and it is not showing any sign of sagging.

Bang for the buck is fantastic. I did my research and would definitely buy again!

Hi jslice,

Thanks for sharing your comments and feedback about your new mattress.

Like the other members that have purchased it you certainly made a great quality/value choice … and congratulations on your new mattress as well

I was super overwhelmed when I started looking into a new mattress earlier this year, I had no idea there were so many kinds. I stumbled across BB and I’m so glad I did. The online reps were super responsive and helpful in determining what firmness was right for me. They also helped me choose a bed spring and cover.

I love this mattress, its so comfortable. I also bought a pillow and sheets while I was at it and I’m very happy with those as well.

I was a little worried because I have two dogs that sleep with me but I’ve had the mattress about 4 months now and its holding up great. I don’t think its any different then the day I bought it .

To answer the questions in the original post =
I went with medium firmness because I had the same concerns… if you sit on the very very edge it does sink a little bit. But if the back of your knees hit the edge while sitting then the mattress supports you fine.
It was the right choice for me because I’m a side and back sleeper.

You could totally get away with putting boards in your frame as long as they are closer then 3 inches.

It appears they’ve recently made a change in the base foam of the mattress. According to Sleepopolis:

‘They moved from a convoluted base foam to a standard full core base foam. Some sleepers on the extreme may notice a slight difference in cooling (mostly if you’re very heavy). And edge support is also very slightly better in the new version. But beyond that, the differences were so small they weren’t really worth going into.’

Now, I know how this site feels about Sleepopolis, so that’s why I’m posting it here to see if Phoenix has heard anything in this regard

Hi worknman,

There are some comments about the change in posts #3 and #4 here.

It’s unlikely to make any significant difference in cooling because the convoluted foam was under 4" of latex and a quilted cover which are already breathable and “temperature neutral” components but it could make a small difference in edge support for some people that are in a higher weight range.

Okay, cool. Thought I would mention also that they’re once again running the special with the free pillows, so if you’re reading this and thinking about pulling the trigger on this mattress, now would be as good a time as any

Just an update on my experience with the BB medium firm, after nearly 2 months of having it. For those who weren’t following along, the tl;dr version is that I liked the mattress (my first latex one), but thought it was a bit too firm.

I contacted BB and they sent me out a topper for it, which was a 2" memory foam topper from dream foam. (There were no specs on the box, so I dunno what the foam density is.) I appreciated that it softened up the mattress, but I think they spoiled me on latex because the memory foam felt too ‘squishy’, for lack of a better word.

After sleeping on the memory foam for a couple of weeks, I started developing some lower back pain, so I took the topper off and in a couple of days, the lower back pain was gone. So I just ordered a BME soft and plan to return the medium, unless I just don’t like the soft for some reason, then I’ll return the soft and try to sell the medium on Craigslist or something, once I’ve found another mattress to replace it with.

At any rate, I’ll post here with an update once the soft arrives and I’ve had a chance to sleep on it for a night or three

I’d also like to say that Mario at BB has been very responsive and cooperative throughout this whole process.

Hi worknman,

Thanks for the update … and I’m looking forward to your comments and feedback about the soft version once you’ve received it and have had the chance to sleep on it for a bit.

Arrived yesterday, initial thoughts:

  • returned Tuft & Needle - poor edge support
  • returned Leesa - slept hot

KING/MEDIUM
Packaging - holes in carton, tape was off; mattress undamaged
Instructions - none that I could find
Smell - very little
Immediate feel - “ah…”, noticeably more comfortable than the other two
Edge Support - about the same as the Tuft & Needle; Leesa was much better

Width - 74.5"; I measured to straight edge, not where quilted cover starts to curve. Others have mentioned that it’s short (supposed to be 76".). 1. will it expand more with time? 2. will I get better edge support with the Firm?

Height - 11.25", the specs indicate 10", so I suppose it doesn’t account for the quilted cover. This is important as I want dogs to jump from as little as possible distance.
