ncmom - how do you like your mattress? Would you say the UD is truly in between the Cloud Luve and Supreme. Also, how is it in terms of coolness/sleeping hot. Finally, did you transport it from door to bedroom? (We have two flighs of steps to get the the BR!
hshanka - A few questions: How do you like the Cool Luxe? Was the bed easy to haul upstairs? Also did it turn out to be a full 13 inches in height? Does it feel like the Cloud Luxe or a bit firmer/softer?
I just hauled mine upstairs with my hubby, that thing was HEAVY (160lb or so). It was a process, but the two of us managed to get it up. Its almost impossible with one person, unless ultra strong, 2-3 people can do it though. Iâm seriously wondering how much it cost them to ship a 160lb 76inch wide mattress(King).
Ours is still sealed, but the quality looks good from what we can tell. (heh, interestingly enough, the pillows ship in a seperate box, and fedex loaded them on different trucks, so we donât have the pillows yet)
Our pillows arrived, but Iâm a bit confused by them.
They are king size pillows, but seem to only have enough foam for standard pillows? if the material is pushed down and left to sit, there is a good 8 inches or so between the end of the material and end of pillow. I am going to contact them tomorrow to ask about it.
Thanks for prompting me on this. I meant to do this earlier, but somehow got delayed until now. Please find my review below.
We received the mattress on May 8th so have been able to use it for a few days now. Overall the mattress is very plush to sleep in. My neck pain went away after 2 days of sleeping in this mattress. From a comfort and pressure relief point of view, the mattress is excellent.
Like another poster, we received incorrect pillows with the mattress (queen latex instead of king). BB sent a replacement which is a Queen memory foam instead of king latex. I have contacted them and they are checking into what happened. Mario said they will take care of it, it shouldnât be a problem. Waiting for confirmation on replacement king pillows.
The biggest difference between this mattress and the Tempur Cloud Luxe is the edge of the mattress. We found the edge has a significant amount of give, which is not the case with Tempur Cloud Luxe. Please see attached pictures. Mario is checking with their manufacturing department for more info on this. The give is so much that if i get to the edge by mistake, i could roll off. My foundation is the Structures by Malouf wire frame one that is recommended here, and similar to the one that BB recommends (Genius frame).
Being a gel foam, it is also a faster response than traditional mem foram mattress. I think this is a good thing since i have less motion restriction than i would on the Tempur Cloud Luxe.
Other than the edge give characteristic, we really like sleeping on the mattress. It sleeps cool and is very plush yet supportive. Feels slightly more plush that cloud luxe - i think this is because of the fast response characteristic of the gel - it compresses more quickly than traditional mem foam, getting you to the plush state faster.
Let me know if youâd like to know anything specific and I can update this review.
The Malouf frame is excellent. No creaks, rust etc. I also donât feel the center of the fame if i sleep in the middle of the mattress.
The Malouf mattress protector is very good as well. It has a thin waterproof layer underneath the top has the texture of a towel (but much thinner). I coudnât notice any significant change in the feel of the mattress with vs without the cover.
I have said this before, and Iâll say again - these guys are very very professional. Mario just called me back and told me he is personally taking care of the pillow confusion and will ensure king pillows are shipped out.
The mattress give -
Mario confirmed this is expected behavior for this mattress. He said if you sleep 2 inches inside the edge you shouldnât see this. This is indeed the case - if you sleep slightly inside, there is no issue. The reason i get close to the edge is because our 3 year old sometimes comes into our bed at night, necessitating the use of all available space on the mattress.
Ultimately, this is an excellent mattress. It is not the Tempur Cloud Luxe. Only the Tempur Cloud Luxe can be identical to itself. This mattress is made differently, with different materials, and comes very close to providing the plush feel of the cloud luxe experience at ~50% lower price. Its a high quality mattress.
If I walked into their physical store, and tried this mattress on its own merits without any comparison to Tempur, I would be impressed with it.
We are going to continue evaluating the mattress for the edge give scenario - if we are able to get used to sleeping a little inside when our toddler is in between us, then we should be OK.
Edge support is seen more often in innerspring mattresses which are more prone to edge sagging because of the nature of springs and innerspring construction (where the edge of a spring is significantly less firm than the center) and foam mattresses usually donât have (or in most cases need) edge support because few people sleep with a lot of their weight concentrated on the outside few inches of their mattress. It can also be a two a âtwo edgedâ sword sometimes depending on the methods used and on how it is used. In some cases if polyfoam or lower quality materials are used then edge support can just be a cost cutting measure (using less firmer but less costly materials to replace higher quality materials) with a story attached, can become softer over time than higher quality materials in the rest of the layer (particularly if they are used for sitting), can delaminate and separate from the inside layers or components, or they may remain firmer while the layers inside soften and then you may be âsleeping in a wellâ.
Edge support is most commonly found in the deeper support layers of a mattress and is partially masked by the comfort layers on top which in most cases donât have edge support even with mattresses that have edge support in the support core. The thicker the comfort layers the more they may mask the benefit of any edge support although it would still have some effect ⌠particularly for sitting which compresses the mattress more.
For those who do sleep with the majority of their weight very close to the edge of a mattress or with innersprings that are softer at the edges or with softer support materials it can be a benefit and prevent âroll offâ or can be helpful for some people who have some difficulty with getting out of the bed with softer mattresses. It can also be a benefit for those who prefer a firmer outside edge for sitting (even though this can affect the durability of the mattress or the edge material) but sitting a little more towards the middle of the mattress rather than on the outside few inches is normally enough to solve any issues with sitting on the mattress.
So in most cases edge support in a non innerspring foam mattress is not really necessary and most people donât sleep close enough to the very edge of a mattress where it would make a real difference but for those who prefer it for various reasons then it would be important that the method and materials used are durable and âbalancedâ with the other layers and and wonât compromise the long term feel, performance or durability of the mattress.
Some examples of memory foam mattresses with edge support are a wedge type system and you can see another example here with a firmer edge in the support layer under the memory foam but in most cases with a foam mattress that isnât too soft for the body type of the person sleeping on it (particularly in the support layers), edge support isnât really an issue.
A few days ago, I also bought one from Brooklyn Bedding and everybody like it for price. Before taking that product Iâve checked a lots of review from many sites. I think that helped me so much to select the better one.
