I have been looking and researching a new memory foam mattress for over 2 months now and want to share my findings.
I am no expert so take what you will from this and do your research!
I first used a lot of forums and the really great info on this website to get a starting point, then I started going to web sites and looking at the products and reading feedback.
I also visited stores and tried out their mattress then went back home and researched their brands and models.
I liked the Temperpedic Cloud Luxe but did not like the price. what I also found was that most of the different brands in the same comfort rating felt the same to me so I started reading and questioning this and learned about IDL, memory foam density and base foam density and that you can change the IDL with the chemicals used in making memory foam and that the higher the density has nothing to do with IDL or comfort level but a lot to do with durability and cost, so a 3# foam can be just as comfortable as a 5.3# foam at least for a while.
The cost difference between a 3.5# foam and a 5.3# foam is huge so those cheapo ones may feel ok but will not have durability.
The base foam also plays into it the same way and a 2.0 to 2.5 HD foam seems best.
I looked at Christeli out of South Carolina and like what I saw, They have quiet a few models in different configurations at various cost, They are not the cheapest out there but offer a unique product since the base foam and the memory foam are incased separate and you have 4 handles that fasten them to each other.
They also put a layer of foam of different levels on each side of the base foam with one being firm and the other soft so you can flip the bottom side and change the comfort level slightly.
From talking to the Service rep I found that the base is 2.0 density and the memory foam part ranges from 5.3# to 8# depending on the model and is all American made right there in their factory and the way they make it is that it is perforated so should sleep cool.
They also offer a return policy and a warranty and their feed back is very good.
I also looked at the Dreamfoam Ultimate Dreams 13" gel sold on Amazon and talked to their service rep about that mattress, feed back on that mattress is also very good and it is American made and uses 3" of 4# gel foam and 2" of 5.3 memory foam and the base is 1.5# HD foam but they have no return policy once you take it out of the box I am not sure about their warranty if any.
I was also concerned with the gel foam as I have read that the gel can break down in that type of foam.
Their customer service seems good but they only offer the one model so you can’t shop comfort levels. they do compare it to the Cloud Luxe and reviews mostly agree with that just a little firmer.
I had decided on the Dreamfoam due to its lower price but during the 2 months of my researching and building the queen size base the price increased by $100.00 so that put it close to the Christeli.
In fairness I found out that the memory foam chemicals have increased in price so that may have driven the increases while Luxe-pedic absorbed the cost but not sure for how long.
Long story short I have bought the Chrsiteli Tiffany after talking to them for about 30 minutes while they answered all of my technical questions with a lot of patience and I am now waiting on its arrival. Their customer service is also very good.
I hope this helps someone and I will post a review on my new mattress after I have had it for a while.
