Greetings All,
Our new latex mattress from Arizona Mattress arrived on Friday. Our family had some appointments in the morning, so my fear was that we were going to miss the shipment. I always preferred to ship FedEx instead of UPS because FedEx gives a smaller window for delivery whereas UPS almost always says “by end of day”. When we returned, there were no boxes yet nor a “missed delivery” slip on our door.
While I was putting our kids to bed for a nap and when my wife was making dinner I heard a truck or bus, but there was no knock on the door nor the ring of the door bell. Once I got my kids down for a nap, I took a peak outside and noticed three large boxes sitting on my porch. While I was excited that it was delivered, I was also annoyed with UPS. I have never had luck with them. Why not ring the door bell or knock to let us know that our expensive (from my prospective) shipment had arrived.
This is what I saw
Needless to say, all of the boxes were beat up which didn’t surprise me after touring a UPS facility while in college, when I was seeking a part time job. I still can’t get over how much these boxes get thrown around.
With the kids still sleeping upstairs, all I could do was take each of the rolled up latex rolls out of the box and remove some of the tape that kept the roll closed.
Once our kids woke up I got to work. I first laid the cover over our metal frame/foundation.
I then unzipped and folded the sides down as instructed on countless video’s I have watched. I should note that there are no instructions that come with setting up the bed, however it seems to be the same for this style of latex mattress
What was not clear to me was which base layer was the medium and which one was firm. The first 6" latex layer that we pulled out of the wrapping was not labeled with the exception of N7 written on it. I should note that I was amazed at how quick latex bounces back compared to memory foam. Don’t get me wrong, I knew it would bounce back quick, but until you see it in person, I just couldn’t picture it. I would also like to note that there was no odor to the latex (which there shouldn’t have been) but I have read some reviews elsewhere of people claiming latex smells. If anything had a smell, it would have been the plastic bags that held the latex.
The latex looks yellower in the picture then it is in real life. I was having troubles getting the color right. In this picture you can see what must be air pockets. The second latex was stamped with the latex information. As you can see, this latex came from the Netherlands. This one is also labeled 26.7 making it the medium base layer. This was confirmed by touch as well.
Moving the latex wasn’t hard at all, nor was zipping the cover. The 3 inch comfort layer was lamented together into one piece. I honestly don’t really know the benefits of bamboo, but was a “free upgrade” with the 100 percent natural latex. Arizona Mattress states that the cover has “1.5 inches of pure natural Joma Wool for added comfort and flame resistance found in this natural component” but I do not see how this is actually 1.5 inches, not that it matters, as long as it provides the proper fire rating.
What was missing from the shipment was an invoice and warranty papers Greg from Arizona Mattress (mattresses.net) stated would be in the shipment. Once again, I am not too concerned since I have a copy of the invoice in my email and you can find the warranty information online. One thing I will have to get clarification on is their 60 day guarantee. After further review, it says that the mattress must be returned 60 days from the date of invoice. In my case, that means 32 of the days have already went by before we even received the mattress. While I don’t think we will need to return the mattress back, if this is indeed the case, this may be something prospective buyers need to be aware of since I believe this site recommends laying on the mattress for at least 30 nights.
At this time, my wife is very excited about her side. The jury is still out for me. I think I may like my wife’s harder side more then my medium. In either case, it is much better then our previous mattress. I will keep you all posted as time goes on and after I get some clarification from Arizona mattress.
