Flobeds foundation

Has anyone bought the foundation from FLobeds for their latex mattress? I feel they are pretty expensive for $800 for the king size. Are the foundations usually that expensive? is it worth it?

Hi Vb3920,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum!

You weren’t specific about which FloBeds foundation that you were curious about, as there are two near the $800 range (it depends upon whether or not you purchase the foundation together with the mattress).

The Euro Slat Foundation is $779 in the king when purchased with a mattress. This is a more “finished” foundation with the wood, inside and out. There is organic cotton quilted to wool matching the mattress around the perimeter of the foundation. There is a solid 1" x 6" structure of Ponderosa Pine used around the perimeter. Bowed Beech slats placed into European rubber holders, with tension adjustable slide are used for the top surface. Besides being a functional part of the comfort of the sleep set, items built like this are constructed more like a piece of furniture, and the structure is such that legs may be screwed under it and it will support a mattress without the use of a metal bed frame.

The Fir Slat Foundation is $679 in a king when purchased with a mattress. This is also a more “finished” foundation with the wood, inside and out, like the Euro Slat Foundation. There is organic cotton quilted to wool matching the mattress around the perimeter of the foundation. There is a solid 1" x 6" structure of Ponderosa Pine used around the perimeter, with flat vertical grain Fir used for the top slats for a very flat surface, with spacing 1.75" apart. Each slat is secured to the base using screws. This foundation is also constructed more like a piece of furniture, and the structure is such that legs may be screwed under it and it will support a mattress without the use of a metal bed frame.

Foundations constructed in this manner will tend to be in a higher price point, as the level of quality of wood, materials and finishing will be higher than the typical K-D foundation. Whether or not this is a “good value” would of course be up to your own personal evaluation (see post #13 here).

If you’re more interested in a more “standard” style of foundation, something like those offered by US Box Spring or other options listed in the foundation thread may be of interest.
