Hi goldilocks12,
Thanks for taking the time to share such detailed comments and feedback about your new mattress and adjustable bed … I appreciate it
On the other hand, the mattress is very new and I’ve read that over the first several weeks, latex mattresses tend to soften a little bit anyway.
Phoenix, do you think I should try two layers of soft over a layer of medium or firm, or should I just give this set up more time for my body to adjust to it? It’s a huge improvement already from what we had before, so it’s nice that I’m really just fine-tuning it now, but I would love to hear your opinion. We have the stretchy cotton Sleeptek mattress protector and then a sheet on the mattress.
As you mentioned there will be a break in and adjustment period for any new mattress or sleeping system (not just latex) as the foam layers lose any of their “false firmness” and the cover stretches and loosens a little and your body gets used to a sleeping surface that is different from what it is used to (see post #3 here). This would typically be a few weeks but it can be shorter or longer depending on the specifics of the person and the mattress.
It can be quite surprising to some people how much their sleeping experience can change over the first few weeks of sleeping on a new mattress and I would tend to give any new mattress about a month (or at the very least a couple of weeks) before rearranging or exchanging layers.
If after 30 days your sleeping experience shows a clear and consistent pattern that isn’t changing then that would be the best time to decide on the types of changes that will have the best chance of resolving any “symptoms” or discomfort you are experiencing.
I’m looking forward to any additional updates you have the chance to share once you’ve had the chance to sleep on your mattress for a little bit longer.
Phoenix
