I don't get it, why is my foam cushion sofa more comfortable than my new Latex mattress? Help!

Last night I slept on the opposite side of my bed, which is configured exactly the same, firm, medium, soft, but I’ve only slept on that side of the bed a handful of times, so it felt noticeable firmer. Woke up with no lower back pain what so ever.

To me this means one or two things:

A) I’m incredible sensitive to small differences in the feel of the mattress.

B) The side I’ve been sleeping on has a defective layer.

C) The feel of Latex changes noticeably after a 3 to 4 month break in period.

All mattresses have a break in period that will be more or less noticeable to some people than to others so this would certainly play a role. Based on your comments I would also guess that you are much more sensitive to very small changes than most people would be and I would also guess that you are probably close to the edge of the “comfort/support” range that would be suitable for you so very small changes may take you “over the edge” into the “too soft range” (see post #2 here).
