So I setup the IKEA Latex topper yesterday allowing 10 hours for it to properly decompress before use and I couldn’t go to sleep right away after laying on it for the first time (took me about 2 hours to sleep), this is probably because I was trying to examine the feel of the topper on my mattress which had just been flipped for the first time so both the mattress and topper where fresh and not been worked in.
With the topper my mattress felt no firmer than my mattress without a topper when compared to the first day I got and slept on my new mattress, in fact I feel it’s softer but yet less conforming probably because there’s no polyester fiber fill in the topper unlike the mattress which has about 1/2" of polyester fiber fill in the quilting layer.
I also feel IKEA’s Latex topper’s fabric cover is too thick, the hole indents in the topper are pretty prominent and the smell is just awful (like horse skin and melted rubber infused) which significantly takes away from any good feel the topper offers and makes you focus on the flaws when sleeping on it the very first time which can be annoying.
I don’ think the IKEA Latex topper is bad product by any means, I just think it’s poorly executed/designed and overpriced, the Latex feels excellent but the ticking cover is just too thick and stiff, you can feel the indent holes when laying on it, the smell is bad even nauseating (probability of headaches) and I honestly don’t know what the zipper on the cover is for when clearly the Latex cannot be removed from the cover.
Overall I think I’m going to give the IKEA topper and my mattress combination more time just as I did with my new mattress which felt very firm too me the first day but now feels more or less perfect since both the mattress and my body has adjusted (took 2 nights), I’m going away for two weeks so hopefully when I come back the awful smell is gone and I’ll be willing to give the combination another shot.
