Ive been looking for months for memory foam mattresses. I want a decent quality one for 700 or less. I just dont know who to buy from. Are serta ok? There is a 10 inch 3 inch memory foam one floor model for 525$ instead of 599$ Nothing special just average but seems good. Sorry Im just lost. Also Im a college student, queen size.

The first place I would start your research is post #1 here which has all the basic information, steps, and guidelines you will need to make the best possible choices. It will also help you avoid most of the worst ones including the major brands such as Serta or any other manufacturer that doesn’t disclose the quality of the materials in their mattresses.
Without knowing the specifics of what is in the mattress there is no way to make meaningful quality or value comparisons with other mattresses because a mattress is only as good as its construction and the materials inside it.

Thanks for helping everyone on here! So much time and effort is spent on your posts it’s astonishing. Anyway my zip is 42102. I really want a foam mattress. The one I mentioned made by serta the tag said made literally 30 miles from me. When you say local made do you mean a store gets it from a factory close by? Thanks again.

There are three basic types of foam which are polyfoam, memory foam, and latex foam and they re all very different. The choice between them is really a preference choice and becoming familiar with the pros and cons of each so you know which type of foam you prefer is an important part of choosing between them. Almost all mattresses have some type of foam in them and in most cases the weak link of a mattress is the use of lower quality foams (usually lower density memory foam or polyfoam) in the comfort layers which tends to soften and break down much more quickly than higher quality materials.
As you can see in the guidelines in this article (one of the links in the “read first” post) … Serta is one of the major brands which I would tend to avoid no matter where they were made. The local manufacturers I mean are generally smaller independent manufacturers that are open and transparent about the materials in their mattresses and either sell them factory direct or through smaller sleep shops that are more focused on educating their customers than selling them. No matter which manufacturer makes your mattress though … if you don’t know the quality of the materials inside it then you can’t make any meaningful comparisons with other mattresses because every type of material has lower and higher quality (more durable) versions.

I went to Brandy Bedding and they are awesome. Thanks for the recommendation. One question, they are selling me the floor model for 799$ with the boxspring and mattress cover. It has 6 inches of core foam, 3 inches of cushion foam, 1 inch of memory foam and at the very top 1 inch of latex. Does this seem like a good price for the bed?

I would need to know the details of all the layers (density of any memory foam or polyfoam and the type and blend of any latex), whether it includes an actual box spring or a foundation, and the size of the mattress to make any meaningful assessments or make comparisons with other mattresses.
Based on my conversations with Bandy Bedding and on complete guesswork about the materials (except the latex which is almost always a good quality material) it would probably be good value and better than most of the local options you have available but no matter who you buy from, “probably” is not enough and it’s always important to know the details of every layer in your mattress so you can make more informed buying decisions and identify any potential weak links in the mattress.
