Latex Topper Question

Hi there,

I’ve decided to go the latex topper route. In particular, I am looking for the softest latex topper (ILD of 14 or so). This is to enhance the comfort layer of my existing mattress which offers good support but not such great “comfort”. I find quite a few pressure points throughout the night. Toppers have solved this problem for me in the past.

I had two specific questions I was hoping could be answered - any help would be greatly appreciated:

1-Who makes the best talalay latex topper. I’m not concerned as much about price as I am about quality. I have reached out to the folks at KTT that source from Latex International and they have been pretty helpful. Do they fall into the category of “best”? Is there such a category that exists?

2-In reading through the forum posts and other parts of the website it seems like at an ILD of 14 the recommendation is to go with blended Talalay versus natural rubber. In fact, that is what the folks at KTT recommend. I just wanted to confirm that in fact that is the case. I am looking for the softest feel.

Hi jet551,

There are only two manufacturers of Talalay latex that you will find in North America which are Latex International and Radium. They both make high quality products and I would put them on a roughly equal footing. I don’t think there is a way to quantify which one is “best” outside of personal considerations or preferences. In reality it would boil down to which one is best for you and I think that the softest versions of Talalay would be much easier to find with Latex International products than it would with Radium products because while Radium makes a very wide range of Talalay ILD’s (seehere)…theyaren’taswidelyavailablehttps://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/0https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/1https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/2https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/3https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/4https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/5https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/6

Yes … I would suggest the same thing for those who are looking for the softest Talalay latex. The blended Talalay is available in a little softer ILD’s than the 100% natural because the blend is available in a 14 ILD rating while the softest 100% natural is N1 which is in a range from 14 - 19 ILD but is typically somewhere in the middle. In the case of Latex International’s Talalay the blend is also likely to be more durable than the 100% natural in the lowest ILD’s. Even if they were the same ILD a blend would still feel a little softer and more pressure relieving for most people than the 100% natural because synthetic rubber is less dense than natural rubber and you will sink into it a little more deeply.

Thanks Phoenix!

Incredibly helpful as always. I am going to get the blended topper from KTT. Really appreciate your insights (and this site).

Jet

Hi jet,

I’m glad the site could help you … and I hope you have the chance to share your feedback once you’ve received your new topper.

I also hope your topper works out as well for you as chs4000’s did for them
