Hi Alamib,
Great job on the apples to apples comparison! I just had a look at the 2 mattresses you’re comparing, and I am seeing that the SleepEZ mattress is more expensive than the My Green Mattress, but I’m seeing a difference of $365 rather than $600. I’m going to include the prices and discounts I’m looking at just to make sure we’re seeing the same thing:
Sleep EZ 9" Select King:
base price $2299
minus $500 Cyber Monday sale
minus 5% TMU discount (looks to be stackable with other discounts)
Total: $1709
My Green Mattress Hope King:
base price $1519
minus $175 off winter sale
Total $1344
- MGM Hope is $365 less expensive
Here are some differences I noted, along with the ones you noted::
- SEZ mattress cover is zippered, allowing access to the latex layers
- SEZ allows latex customization and splitting (including the option to use Talalay latex if desired)
- SEZ uses Eco Wool in cover, MGM uses GOLS certified organic wool (IMO a minor difference, but you can Google “Eco wool vs GOLS organic wool” for more info on this)
- SEZ includes 2 shredded latex pillows and a mattress protector in their “bundle”
- The SEZ mattress will ship in its component parts in 3-4 boxes (you’ll put the latex into the cover yourself), where as the MGM hope mattress will ship pre-assembled in one box (I think, you should confirm).
- The SEZ mattress ships in 48 hrs, where as the MGM ships in 4-7 weeks (but one place on their site says 3-6 weeks, so you may want to confirm),
- Differences in returns/warranties, which you can read more about on their websites
The SEZ zippered mattress cover provides the flexibility to adjust the mattress without completely replacing it, which in my mind is a pretty great feature (but this may matter less to you).
Another factor to consider is the shipping. Both mattresses should end up weighing about the same (~150 lbs), but the SEZ will come in 3-4 boxes where as the MGM is one box. Some would consider mattress assembly to be a chore they don’t want to deal with, where as others would rather assemble themselves than move a single 150 lb box.
Another option: DIY
Another option is that you could build a mattress by ordering the component parts and assembling it yourself. For instance, buying the latex slabs from Sleep on Latex and ordering the organic cotton/wool cover from Sleep EZ:
- SOL organic dunlop 3" firm topper $339
- SOL organic dunlop 3" medium topper $279
- SOL organic dunlop 2" soft topper $159
- Sleep EZ organic cotton/wool zippered cover $470 (includes 5% off TMU discount)
Total cost $1247
So as you can see, the DIY route is a little less expensive than even the MGM Hope option while providing the flexibility of the SEZ Select option… There are definitely trade offs to building the mattress yourself, especially in terms of returns/warranties, so I’d recommend taking the time to understand those if DIY is of interest to you. I have recently done a DIY mattress build, so could speak more to some of those if you’ve got questions around that.
Disclaimer: To the best of my knowledge the prices and info I comparison info above is correct as of the time of this posting, but please do confirm pricing and “decision making factors” yourself to be safe.
Best of luck, and please update us on your progress!
