I think you certainly made a great quality/value choice … and congratulations on your new mattress 
There is more information about the pros and cons of different types of mattress protectors and some good sources for each of them in post #89 here that should be helpful. It also includes a link in the last paragraph to a post that has more information about mattress encasements that may be a better option for those that have more severe dust mite allergies.
