Mattress on hardwood floor

Has anybody skipped the box and bed frame and placed a foam/latex mattress directly on a hardwood floor?
Any issues/concerns with doing that?

Thanks!

Hi Oceanik,

It would probably be OK on a very temporary basis but it’s not something I would suggest on a permanent basis (see post #106 here).

A firm flat surface works fine, but the concern would be air circulation. I’d treat this the same as placing the item on a solid-deck platform bed, putting something like a coir rug or similar under the mattress to allow for breathability.

Would Tatami mats fit the bill? They’re on top of slats on a bed from thetatamiroom.

Thanks!

I would make sure that the matts is at least 1" thick and the grass is decently compressed so that the product stays flat. It won’ be as breathable as coir, but it’s better than being on the floor.
