hi everyone! i’m moving into my apartment soon for college and am looking to buy a queen mattress. i’m a student, so i don’t have the most money.
my budget is around 450-500 but honestly, if i could spend less i’d be ecstatic. i know that’s not a lot for a mattress so i was thinking of maybe ordering a decent mattress and a good memory foam topper to help with it. i’d like for it to last for a few years (3+) but im aware a long durability would be difficult at this price range.
could anyone recommend some affordable mattresses?
for reference, i’m 5’4, 105 lbs (49 kg), prefer medium firm, sleep 80% on my side, and 20% on my back. i’ve been sleeping on only a 3 in. memory foam mattress topper on the ground for the past 2 months and i’ve been fine (no discomfort, back pain, sleep like a log) so i guess that i’m not too picky.
appreciate all the help i can get! please let me know if there’s any more info i can provide.
You probably wont be satisfied with $500 mattresses. If you could bump thst to $1200, you will be a whole lot happier with it. Sleep EZ, APM, BackScience and DLX come to mind.
If you buy a $500 mattress, you are essentially wasting your money.
Im a big Dave Ramsey fan, and I dont like debt, but you might want to spend a bit more {and put it on a credit card) because it is for your health.
Looking for a mattress on a low budget can be a real challenge, but it’s not impossible. Since you have a lower bodyweight, you’re at an advantage in that you won’t break down the comfort materials as quickly as someone who deeply compresses those layers.
And, because you’re only looking for the mattress to last in the 3ish year time frame, it’s apparent you have a realistic outlook on the longevity you will get from a bed in this budget.
From our Trusted Members (see the listings and the discount codes here), you may like the Sigma Pioneer Mattress - their other models are pushing your max budget at $499 but offer some diversity in terms of choices (@kensigmamattress) but you do also get a 10% discount through TMU
Slightly outside your budget (currently on sale for $599) is the DLX Essential Two Sided mattress.
i’ll consider that, thank you! it’s just a bit difficult to adjust my budget due to tuition and all, im aware that it’s not that great of a budget for a good mattress
