Memory Foam Mattress Help

It is tempting when you look at it that way.

I’ll definitely have to do serious research on the tempupedic competition. I peeked for a second at Nest’s website and saw that you can donate the mattress and show them the receipt instead of shipping it back if it doesn’t work. That would be much easier than trying to ship back.

I thought latex would be wonderful but the topper we have isn’t thrilling me. I really loved memory foam (until it died, that is) and latex is just a different feeling. It pushes back on me vs. the sinking in of MF and that bothers my hips. I didn’t feel pressure points on the MF and on the latex I do a little bit. I thought trying to get used to the new sensation of sleeping on top of vs. sinking into the bed would just take a while but after about 6 weeks I still don’t love the latex.

There are so many variables that it might not be strictly a latex thing - it might be because of the density of our topper or what’s underneath it, etc. It’s just so hard to figure out, especially if you’re doing it through the mail! I should add that I’m of the princess and the pea variety of sleepers so I’m sure part of the problem is me. My husband could sleep on anything.

Lucky you for buying one without trying it out and being happy with it

Visiting this thread is a blast from the past. How I wish I could get a Rhapsody Luxe or Cloud Supreme from $1300 to $1900 these days lol!

Still finding it wild how hard it is to find memory foam mattresses with even 4-lb density today at a decent price. I haven’t some across one with 5-lb density yet. The only good news is my wife and I lost a bunch of weight and have gone from 190 lb to 150 lb and 225 lb to 190 lb, respectively. It’s been so long that I don’t even recall what the Cloud Supreme density was anymore. I recall having done so much detective work 7+ years ago, only to never replace our mattress, and now here we are again.

I wish I liked Latex, but the pushback/responsiveness just doesn’t work for my shoulder as a side sleeper. So, I’m back on the memory foam hunt, only to find an absolute scarcity of 5-lb and higher density mattress layers. We actually just went ahead and bought a Nest & Wild with 4" of 3-lb density on top of a TPS quad coil base, and are hoping it suits us during the 99-day sleep trial. If anyone has the drop on 4-lb or higher (5-lb would be better) mattresses, I’d love some help here. Otherwise, I think we’ll be using @savantstrike idea and sticking with 3-lb or so mattresses that feel good, with the expectation of replacing them very few years. I’m actually hoping we love the way this Nest & Wild feels, and can then just trust a DIY build with the TPS quad coil base, 4-lb topper from either Foam Factory or Mattress Toppers, and then figure out a suitable transition layer. The transition layer is the one I can’t figure out so far, as I haven’t found memory foam in a high ILD, don’t like latex, and know so little about polyfoam.

Anyway, I happened across this thread and was reminded of my previous mattress and went down memory lane a bit. This was such an informative thread. Maybe we can get it going again with some updated 4-5-lb-layer mattresses, though I am finding none on my end and feeling quite lost. Hope everyone has been well over these years!
