More Cost Conscious Solutions to Tempur-Cloud Supreme Breeze

The three contenders:

  1. Tempur-Cloud Supreme Breeze
  2. Novosbed Aria
  3. DreamFoam Memory Foam or Latex

Whichever mattress wins out will go onto a Leggett & Platt D222s split king adjustable foundation.

The Tempur-Cloud Supreme Breeze is the only mattress of these three available in our area for testing, and is the mattress that satisfies the PPP best.

I am hoping for some input on a few things.

A. Why is Novosbed not a commercial member listed on this site? Does that suggest something negative about the company, its practices, it products?

B. Which DreamFoam mattress in MOST similar to the Tempur-Cloud Supreme Breeze?

C. Is the “Breeze” factor in the Tempur more than trumped up marketing to boost price/profit? Apparently, it is a coolmax wrapper around the mattress.

D. Since any of these mattresses, presumably, would require a moisture barrier to protect the mattresses from sweat. If the coolmax wrapper is itself wrapped inside a waterproof barrier, I would assume that its functionality is impaired. Is this correct?

E. Which of the alternate beds mentioned are most likely to function the same as the Tempur-Cloud Supreme Breeze?

Thanks for your consideration and shared thoughts to come…

Let me add as Alternate Bed #4, Brooklyn Beddings’ Purecool Supreme.

Thanks.

Hi PPrincess,

There are many more non member manufacturers and retailers across the country than there are members and while I would certainly read something “positive” into membership … I wouldn’t read anything “negative” into a manufacturer that isn’t a member. You can see more comments about this in post #4 here (about Novosbed) and in post #2 here.

NOTE ADDED JAN, 2016: They have now introduced their new simplified choice mattress which has replaced their previous models and have also become a member of this site.

While they would be the best source of guidance about how each of their mattresses feel and the mattresses they compare to … their Ultimate Dreams Supreme Gel 12" mattress is the one they specifically compare to the Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme and would be the closest.

Gel materials will have “some effect” on temperature regulation but it would be mostly when you are first going to sleep at night and the effect of the gel wouldn’t generally last throughout the course of the night. There is more about the different types of gel materials in post #2 here. In other words … there is some truth to the claims but the marketing also exaggerates it.

A mattress protector will have “some effect” yes although it’s not possible to quantify how much this will be for any particular person because there are so many variables involved. There is more about the pros and cons of different types of mattress protectors in post #89 here and there is also more about the many variables that can affect temperature regulation besides just the type of foam or cover used in a mattress in post #2 here. The Coolmax cover relies on moisture wicking and ventilation to regulate temperature so it would be affected by the breathability of any protector or the sheets above it.

There is more about the different ways that one mattress can “match” or approximate another one in post #9 here but these types of comparisons are very subjective and different people will have different opinions about which of them would be closest to the Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme in terms of feel or performance. All of them will be similar in terms of their comfort/pressure relief and “support” but the subjective “feel” of each of them would be different. The only reliable way to know how any of them will feel for you or how closely they compare to the Cloud Supreme (regardless of how they feel or compare for someone else) would be based on your own personal experience.

There is more about the most effective ways to choose a mattress (either online or locally) in post #2 here that can help you identify and reduce the risks involved with each of them. There is also more about the most important parts of the “value” of a mattress purchase in post #13 here that can help you make more meaningful comparisons between mattresses but all of the mattresses you are considering are good quality/value choices so in the end your final choice (see post #2 here) will be a matter of “best judgement” choice based on your conversations with each of them and all the objective, subjective, and intangible parts of your personal value equation (including price and return policies) that are most important to you.
