New PLB "Blue" Specs

Phoenix:

Have you posted or seen any official ILD specs on the new “blue” series PLB mattresses?

I am specifically looking for the Nature, Nutrition and Beeautiful.

Thanks

Hi toni,

I know the layering on them but not the ILD’s of each layer (most are now filled in)

They are supposed to be similar to the old ones in terms of feel so the ILD’s may be similar but may not be the same. The Active Fusion fast response comes in slightly different ILD’s from the regular Talalay and the 1" base layer on the old models has now been added to the upper layers (the second layer down except in the Pamper where it has been added to the top layer of Active Fusion fast response latex) so ILD’s may have changed as well.

NOTE: The ILD’s listed have now been confirmed.
Here is what I know …

(12") World’s Best Bed™ AF all latex / Natural Talalay
4" ActiveFusion Fast Natural Talalay 15 ILD
2" Natural Talalay Pressure Relief 24 ILD
6" Natural Talalay Latex Support Core 36 ILD
(12") Beautiful- AF all latex / Natural Talalay
3" ActiveFusion Fast Natural Talalay 15 ILD (NOTE: this was previously listed as 21 ILD which means that I was either given incorrect information or it has changed)
3" Natural Talalay Pressure Relief 24 ILD
6" Natural Talalay Latex Support Core 36 ILD
(11") Nutrition- AF all latex / Natural Talalay
3" ActiveFusion Fast Natural Talalay 27 ILD
2" Natural Talalay Pressure Relief 19 ILD
6" Natural Talalay Latex Support Core 36 ILD
(10") Nature- AF all latex / Natural Talalay
2" ActiveFusion Fast Natural Talalay 21 ILD
2" Natural Talalay Pressure Relief 28 ILD
6" Natural Talalay Latex Support Core 36 ILD
(8") Pamper- AF all latex / NaturalTalalay
2" ActiveFusion Fast Natural Talalay 21 ILD
6" Natural Talalay Latex Support Core 40 ILD
LatexBASE the world’s best bed
9" Height
4" Talalay Latex 19 ILD
The specs of the previous version of the PLB line which is still available in some parts of the country are in post #1 here.

NOTE ADDED:
Pure Latex Bliss is now called Pure Talalay Bliss and have introduced a new lineup for 2016 that is very similar to their previous lineup but does have a few differences.

The covers are slightly different. You can see the details in their Q&A here (click “How durable are the fabrics used in Pure Talalay Bliss mattresses?”).

(13") World’s Best Bed / Natural Talalaynow includes …
4" Carbon infused Talalay 15 ILD
3" Natural Talalay Pressure Relief 24 ILD
6" Natural Talalay Latex Support Core 36 ILD
(11") Nutrition / Natural Talalay …now includes …
3" ActiveFusion Fast Natural Talalay 28 ILD (1 ILD firmer than the previous version which shouldn’t be noticeable)
2" Natural Talalay Pressure Relief 19 ILD
6" Natural Talalay Latex Support Core 36 ILD
There is also now an additional model called the Custom Choice which can be used by itself for those that prefer an ultra firm mattress or as a base layer with an additional topper

Custom Choice:

6" Natural Talalay Latex Support Core 40 ILD

All the other specs in their new models are the same.
Note that what PLB calls “natural” Talalay is actually a blend of about 70% synthetic and 30% natural rubber.

does anybody know about PLB toppers - what are they made out of ? is it active fusion too ? they are REALLY soft.

if not, where can i get this active fusion stuff if i were to try to replicate the PLB ?

Hi g1981c,

They have 3 types of toppers.

The “natural” are about 14 ILD.
The Active Fusion fast response are about 15 ILD.
The All natural are N1 which could be anywhere from about 14 - 20 ILD

You can see the ILD range of most of the latex International products on their website here
ADMIN NOTE:Removed 404 page link | Archived Footprint: latexfoam.com/latex-material/components
(Active Fusion is PLB’s name for Talalay GL).

The list of topper and component suppliers is in post #4 here. You may need to call a few of them because they don’t all list everything they carry on their website but if nobody else carries exactly what you are looking for then SLAB carries all the Latex International products in every ILD and 1", 2", 3" and 6" thicknesses.

ha ! it’s funny i missed this post so i didn’t know that ActiveFusion is Talalay GL but i ended up ordering Talalay GL anyway

maybe you telepathically communicated it to me LOL

Hi g1981c,

I was wondering where you purchased your Talalay GL?

Thanks!

I actually just found the link you provided to Arizona Premium Mattress Co. so please disregard my question since I see that you ordered a Talalay GL Topper.

I recently visited the Health Back Store in the Rockville Maryland area and really like the “Healthy Back Bliss Elegance Pure Latex Mattress”. They couldnt provide me much info on the components but I wanted to see if anyone could tell me which model below was equivalent to the Elegance? I am just starting the shopping process so would like to know what components were used so I can compare to mattresses down the line.

If anyone else has any good recommendations in the DC area I would appreciate it. I was planning on making a trip down to the Richmond area to check out the Original Mattress Factory and maybe a quick stop on my next trip up to New York at CozyPure. Any other good ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Rosenthal311,

The elegance is 12" of Talalay latex and would be closest to the Beautiful in terms of layering but I don’t know the specific details of the layering inside the Healthy Back version.

The better options or possibilities I’m aware of in the DC area are listed in post #2 here.

The Richmond list is in post #5 here.

What’s the point/theory of putting a firmer layer on top of a softer layer as in the Nutrition?

Thanks

Hi djag67,

This is called a “dominating layer” (you can click this to bring up a forum search for the term which has a few discussions about it) but in general it’s used to create a firmer sleeping surface for those who like to be more “on” their mattress but with some additional softness underneath to allow for a little more sinking in for those where the layer by itself with a firmer layer under it may be too firm. It creates a “feel” that is different and that some people prefer compared to a more traditional progressive layering where the layers progress from soft to firm as you go deeper in the mattress.

Phoenix

Phoenix,

One quick question about dominating layers/the Nutrition. Would there be any concerns of durability for the Nutrition with the soft 19 ILD layer in the middle for a 6’ 190 lb person?

Thanks

Hi djag67,

I wouldn’t be concerned no if the mattress was suitable in terms of PPP. The firmer top layer would take up much of the compression forces before it “reached” the softer layer below (which will increase its durability) and latex is the most durable of all the foam types

Phoenix

Hi Phoenix,

I know that this is an old thread, but it probably comes up in a lot of searches for people looking for PLB specs.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure the World’s Best Bed contains 4" of 15 ILD on top - not the 21 ILD mentioned in your post.

Here’s a link that says 4" of 15 ILD for the WBB:
http://www.cgmattress.com/pd.25/6/worlds-best-latex-bed

Here’s another link where SLAB provides the same 4" of 15 ILD info (although they are providing the info as a method of building your own PLB replica and suggesting two separate, 2" layers since they don’t sell 4" layers):

I just wanted to make you aware in case you want to update the original post and/or any other posts which contain PLB specs.

Hi jkozlow3,

Interesting.

I’ll have to check with Bliss again since they were the ones who confirmed the specs that are listed.

They may have given me the wrong information or possibly the other listings are incorrect.

Either way … I’ll see if I can find out for sure. Thanks for bringing it up.

Phoenix.

We are going to buy another PLB mattress for our guest room - what are the ILD and specs for the Beautiful for their 2016 line?

Have any of the others such as pamper and nutrition changed or are the same as the list above posted in 2013?

In a nutshell:

 • All items have new covers - you can see on the PTB web site.
 • Pamper, Nature and Beautiful are the same.
 • Nutrition is a bit firmer on the upper layer.
 • World’s Best Bed is 1" thicker on the upper ultra plush layers, so it feels softer, and is using carbon-infused latex.
 • “Natural Line” has been discontinued.
 • “Soft” topper stays the same.
 • “Firm” topper is a bit firmer.
 • Added new 6" model that can be customized with toppers…

Hi scubamom,

I’m not sure which post you were looking at but the “reference” post for the PLB specs here was posted in Oct, 2012.

Phoenix

Thanks! Tried out this years model today… felt great!

Hello, I am a complete newbie. Just joined this site so I am still reading the tutorial. Bear with me as I do have a quick question. You said this:
“Note that what PLB calls “natural” Talalay is actually a blend of about 70% synthetic and 30% natural rubber.”
I am kind of shocked. I thought PTB sells all natural rubber latex? Which brand then sells 100% natural rubber? Or should I not worry about the blend? Thank you
