Hello all,
I have been lurking/reading for a while and I appreciate all of the useful info that this site offers. Thanks!
Background info:
We are replacing a 10 year old big brand memory foam/polyfoam over innerspring that we have disliked for the past 8 years. Me: 5’ 8", 180lb, back/side/stomach sleeper. Wife: 5’2", 135lb back/side sleeper.
We went to a few local mattress shops that offered latex mattresses and found that we liked a mattress that was 2" soft/3" med/6" firm wrapped in stretch cotton. That model was not available to try with a quilted cover but they had a med/firm that had a wool quilted cover and we liked the cover.
The purchase:
After playing around with some numbers and considering a DIY approach, I ended up deciding to purchase at SleepEZ because it actually ended up costing less than the DIY route and they offer a $30 layer swap and $100 return policy. Pretty hard to beat and offers pretty much all of the benefits of DIY
After speaking with Robin, we decided that the 13000 with the quilted wool cover and S/M/F/XF stack up would work best for us. All layers are split in case we want to play around with them (I will, I am an engineer and can’t help it). We went with the 13000 because the thickness will work best with our current bed frame. I am hopeful that the 3" of soft latex on top combined with the quilted wool cover will give us the comfort we are hoping for.
SleepEZ has a great deal going on right now. We got the 13000, two shredded latex king pillows, and a sheet set shipped for $2160 after the discount from this site.
In search of a mattress protector, I ended up purchasing the St. Dormeir Wool Mattress Protector from Flobeds. I am really hoping the wool protector on top of the wool mattress cover wont provide too much isolation between us and the latex. If it does, my plan is to either buy the 4-way stretch cotton mattress cover from SleepEZ and use the St. Dormeir or use the wool mattress cover that comes with the 13000 and buy a CozyPure Pebble Pique Organic Cotton Stretch Knit Mattress Protector.
Anyway, I am definitely viewing this as a bit of an adventure and love the fact that the bed can be tuned, customized, and repaired if ever needed. I will update this thread as my adventure continues.
