Night Therapy mattresses vs Dreamfoam or Brooklyn Bedding

I have been researching for an affordable, yet good quality latex or memory foam mattress for me and my husband. We have an old spring mattress (queen) and would like to upgrade to a king if we can swing the price. We have only been to a few places to test mattresses so far, and haven’t decided b/w latex or MF at this time (but I think the MF would need to have a gel component for the cooling factor).

I have seen, and really like the Dreamfoam products on Amazon, and also the Brooklyn Bedding products on their website. From what I’ve read, we can’t go wrong with any of their products. However, I have concerns about ordering a product online that we haven’t tested for the comfort level, so ideally I would like something with a return policy or trial period (which BB has if ordered directly, but Dreamfoam does not). However, our price point is stretched too far if we go past a 12" option on the BB site. I initially found the (Dreamfoam) Ultimate Dreams 13" gel mattress on Amazon, then the latex ones (Eurotop and non-Eurotop). We tested some Tempurpedic ones in store, and I gravitated towards the Cloud Luxe & Supreme, but those were WAAAYYY too expensive (which the UD Gel is compared to). However, if it’s not the right comfort fit for us then our options are limited, and I’d rather just get it right the first time (harder than I expected). We would also need to purchase a bed frame, mattress protector, etc, so would like to keep the mattress cost under $1K, or less (this is where it gets tricky). I know ultimately we will have to take a leap of faith once we get a better idea of our preferences, etc.

In my research I’ve also found a line of Night Therapy mattresses on Amazon/Sam’s Club. Based on the Sams info, the 14" Deluxe Grand MF seems like a nice choice, with good reviews, and I can get the mattress and a frame delivered for under $700 (other package options available). This is significantly better than the price for the BB/Dreamfoam/Ultimate Dreams. There is also a return policy if needed. There is also a 13" MyGel Prestige MF, but I believe it may be slighty firmer than what we need (it ranks a 3 of 4 on their scale, with 4 being the hardest). The Deluxe Grand ranks as a 2 (medium). I’m worried it may be too warm since it’s all MF (my hubby’s hot natured). Does anyone have any feedback on this brand/models? Is this one of those we should stay far away from? The prices for these are definitely more appealing, but I don’t want to pay for junk either. The return policy is nice, but if it’s a guaranteed return, I don’t want to mess with it.

I have been in touch with Chuck from Dreamfoam, and he has helped some, but wondering if there are other opinions out there to help compare across brands. I’m waiting to hear back from Chuck about what he expects our comfort level to be on their 1-10 scale (I’m guessing a 7 or 8), which may help narrow down the options a bit more.

Thanks!

That last line should say a 7 or 8…not an smiley face, sorry.

And for general info, I am primarily a side sleeper, and am 5’3" and 120lbs. I tend to wake up on my back, but that could be because the dip in our mattress rolls me over as I sleep (hence the need for a replacement). I usually also sleep with a pillow between my legs for alignment (or under my knees when on my back). My husband is more of a 50/50 side/back sleeper, and is 5’9" and 165 lbs.

Hi ncmom,

The first place I would always start in any mattress search is post #1 here which has all the information, steps, and guidelines you will need to make good choices (and avoid any choices where you don’t know the details of every layer in the mattress).

A mattress is only as good as the materials and components inside it so if you decide to go in this direction it’s important to make sure you know the details of every layer in the mattress so you can identify any potential weak links and make meaningful quality and value comparisons. Night Therapy is a Zinus Brand and the typically use lower quality/density materials than I would consider but you can only know this about a specific mattress by making sure you are provided with the foam densities of every layer of the mattress

In addition to this … the big box stores have almost no knowledge of the the mattresses they sell so you would be rolling the dice in terms of buying a mattress that matches your needs and preferences. I would strongly discourage using other people’s reviews who have no knowledge of mattress or foam quality or whose needs and preferences may be very different from your own as any kind of meaningful guideline for a mattress choice. Only your own experience will tell you if the mattress works for you. Since you will not have the ability to have any meaningful guidance about your choices either in terms of quality or suitability … the only good news is that if you make the wrong comfort choice then at least they have a good return policy. If you buy a mattress that uses low quality materials … then by the time this becomes clear it may be too late to return the mattress so I wouldn’t consider any mattress … regardless of return policy … that didn’t use good quality materials (or where I couldn’t find out).

A forum search on Night Therapy (you can just click this) will bring up more comments about them.
