I would also recommend choosing the mattress model based more on the level of firmness that you enjoy, rather than having gel memory foam or not. While currently it is being promoted by many mattress companies as a breakthrough in temperature control, we try to be a touch more realistic about its uses. Gel memory foam is a nice feature to have, however the main times you will notice a difference is when you first get into bed or if you move to another section of the mattress, as it is still a foam and will gradually warm up with body temperature.

If heat is a major concern, I would absolutely recommend being selective with the bedding used, making sure they are as breathable as possible (such as 100% cotton, loose weave sheets, and light, natural fiber duvets/blankets). As the less heat that is trapped against you by bedding, then the less heat any type of foam mattress can insulate.

Not surprisingly (since they are knowledgeable about mattress materials in general) … I would agree with their comments about gel materials (see post #2 here).

I also agree with them that your sheets and bedding and the mattress protector you use can have just as significant effect on the sleeping temperature of a mattress as the materials in the mattress itself.
