Opinions About The Wisdom Of Purchasing A Floor Model?

I’m curious how folks here feel about purchasing a floor model? We have the opportunity to purchase a floor model of a Green Sleep Niu. It seems fine aside from a faint, 5" square red stain on a side panel of the mattress. They don’t know how it got there. The discount would be 20% off and we would get the full warranty on it. That 20% is a savings of nearly $600!. Thoughts? I don’t know if anyone here has purchased a floor model of a mattress and has any misgivings or is pleased with the decision. I tried to do a search here in the forum and came up empty. Keep in mind that this store doesn’t accept returns, so there’s no way that this model was used in someone’s home.

Hi Analog,

Hopefully some of the other members will see your post and add their own thoughts but the factors that would be important to me would include …

  1. Do the stains or any other minor defects or cosmetic issues bug you. If the answer is yes then I wouldn’t … if the answer is no then I would go to step 2.

  2. Does choosing a floor model affect anything else about the mattress purchase (such as your ability to customize or exchange any layers or any other benefits that go with a non floor model purchase). If the answer is yes then I would decide on how confident I was in my choice in terms of PPP and whether any benefits I lost was worth the discount. If things are still yes then I would go to step 3.

  3. If everything was still looking good then I would probably make some careful comparisons between the floor model NIU and my other finalists based on the parts of my personal value equation that were important to me so I was comparing the floor model NIU to the pros and cons of other mattresses that were available to me rather than only assessing the “value” of the Niu based on the amount of the discount off the regular price of the Niu. If it was still a clear winner then I would probably ask for a larger discount than 20% which is less than I would want in the same circumstances (I would probably go for somewhere in the range of 30% - 50%).

I think we’re pretty much zeroed in on the Niu, at this point, regardless of the savings. My last hesitation was erased when you said the “sleep system” was what is important, and that included the topper. The Niu, without a topper, put too much pressure on my shoulder. With the topper, it relieves the pressure while seemingly providing the best balance and alignment. If it weren’t for the topper, I’d probably go for the Gardner mattress as having the best inherent combination of alignment and pressure relief. The Gardner, though, is not as good as the Niu combined with topper. Funny, the difference in price is almost double if you include the topper. The things I’ll do to try to get the best, most healing, comfortable sleep!

Hi AnalogJ,

IMO … it’s worth it
