Questions/Help with a DIY (Arizona Premium) Mattress

It’s been a while now, so I figured I’d come back and give a review of the mattress so far.

Overview

  • [li]Acquiring & Assembly[ul]
  • Mattress took a while to arrive (about 1 month). It was within a day or so of when they told me it would arrive though, so I was completely expecting this.
  • Cover and Dunlop arrived first - no odors of any sort
  • Talalay arrived 2nd, and certainly needed to air out a bit to remove some odor
  • Getting the 1st layer down and oriented properly was kinda a pain (certainly 2 person job)
  • Layers became easier as we worked our way up
  • Zipper cover was somewhat annoying to work on properly, but nothing too bad (again, 2 person job)
  • Once zipped, it fit snug, looks great, and seems like good quality! The fact that it’s such a tight fit is what made the assembly sorta annoying - but that’s understandable (and worth it) to get a nice product.

    [li]General Comments[ul]
  • Felt just as expected when laying on it
  • When sitting on it, it compresses quite a bit (even the firm side), and then gets super stuff. It sorta feels like it’s compressing fully and turns into a brick. Normally, I think of compression as slowing down as it gets more and more compact. This kinda feels like it keeps compressing and then just stops instantly. This isn’t an issue when laying on it, so for sleeping purposes, it’s a non-issue.
  • We have our sides split between different comfort layers. We can sorta tell where the seam is, but if we’re not paying attention, you can’t really tell. I 100% recommend the split!
    [/ul][/li]
    [li]Sleeping[ul]
  • I’m not a very picky sleeper, so I honestly don’t feel much difference between this and my old firm spring mattress.
  • My fiance likes a softer mattress and finds this MUCH more comfortable.
  • Being able to split it the way we did was an amazing option!
  • I usually sleep hot, and I’ve only had a few issues so far with this. Overall it hasn’t seemed warmer (or cooler) than my old spring mattress, so no real complaints here. The true test will be in the coming summer months though
    [/ul][/li]
    [li]Final Impressions[ul]
  • Bed does exactly what we need it to do
  • I would 100% buy from here again (as long as I’m in no rush)
    [/ul][/li]

Pros:

  • I’ve been sleeping well & GF has been sleeping well
  • The price is fantastic compared to most other places

Cons:

  • Shipping takes much longer than other places. I wasn’t in a rush though, so this didn’t bother me
  • The returns/warranty can be iffy on DIY products. I haven’t had any issues though, and the price savings make it worth it.
  • When sitting on the mattress, it compresses fully and then feels SUPER firm.

Would I Recommend?
Absolutely!
Ken was very helpful over the phone (and on here). I feel I got a solid price compared to other options. I was able to configure it just the way we wanted, and everything seems to have worked out really well so far.

Thanks for the feedback. December and January are always busy months so delivery times are extended during peak season and we are up front about that. Normal lead times are 2 weeks and that’s where we are now. We have so many customization options that the only way we can do it is to make to order instead of having pre-made stuff. There are just way too many options to be able to predict what will sell from one week to another. If I only offered 3 or 4 options then delivery times would be much faster but that’s not how it is.

When couples visit our factory showroom I can safely say that over 70% purchase a dual firmness design. This is why the major bed in the box companies have such a high return rate. One firmness does not fit all!!
