Recommendation for plus size people

Hi hook13,

Because you’re a heavier side sleeper and experiencing discomfort from an older coil-based bed, it’s definitely time to move on. Some of the options like Big Fig and Titan, are both sensible choices for heavier individuals. Titan Plus by Brooklyn Bedding is often recommended for side sleepers due to its medium-firm feel and pressure-relieving top layer. It’s built to support up to 500 pounds per side and offers good durability and comfort. The Titan Plus Elite is a good version choice if you prefer a more cushioned feel and cool sleeping environment due to its use of microcoils in the comfort layer for better airflow and less heat retention .

Big Fig, on the other hand, is firmer and more responsive, with excellent edge support, although some suggest that side sleepers find it not contouring enough for them.Between the two lines, Titan Plus/Elite is generally more comfortable for side sleepers, while Big Fig excels in bounce.

It is understandable if you are hesitant about bed-in-a-box models due to mixed reviews, but there is an argument that can be made that some of the traditional legacy brands, names we all know and used to love, get the same mixed reviews, and that some of the BiB’s these days, particularly the quality build ones made here in the USA, rival, if not exceed the quality and comfort of their fully expanded counterparts.

Costco does offer some decent alternatives that are budget-friendly and easy to replace every few years. They often do get some great values in their inventory. But, the reality is, you need something that will support your weight, excel in comfort, and remain durable with some longevity, otherwise you will be back here at TMU in a couple of years asking the same questions again.

Ultimately, if you’re looking for a long-term investment, Titan Series might be your best bet for comfort and durability.

I would not count out some of the latex mattress manufacturers here at TMU. They specialize in fitting plus sized folks with all latex and latex hybrids, and are very good at listening to what your preferences are and crafting a mattress that will strike the balance between durability, longevity and comfort. These folks are good enough that they get it right over 90% of the time with just one phone call collaboration.

DLX and Engineered Sleep offer a couple of models that handle plus sized folks as well. Engineered Sleep even offers a no foam option with their Duo Lift.

If you live in the Chicago area, @BeloitMattress has a location in Rockford, it is a bit of day trip, but they can craft an old fashioned style mattress to perfectly match your needs, and since you are used to a double sided mattress, they can replicate something that will feel familiar to you when your mattress was seeing its better days.

So, you really do have some quality options out there. You may not need to rely on a temporary solution that you will have to revisit ever couple of years.

I forgot to mention. Regardless of what mattress you choose, your foundation will be the hero of support. Do not skimp on the foundation.

Here is an article on the subject.

Hope this helps.
