Years ago after experiencing shoulder pain and numbness we bought a Sealy Newport Beach king latex mattress. With the exception of the heat, one of the best purchases ever! Now, the years (13-14) have passed, the mattress has hollowed, and the pain is starting to return, so time for a new mattress. But my info is 13-14 years old. Any help on suggesting a replacement that is hopefully cooler would be appreciated. (I will live with the heat for the comfort, but if there is a cooler option would be complete).

The first place I would start your research is the mattress shopping tutorial here which has all the basic information, steps, and guidelines that you will need to make the best possible choice … and know how and why to avoid the worst ones.
The industry has changed substantially since you last purchased a mattress and much of it isn’t for the better (see post #3 here and post #404 here).
I would particularly avoid the major brands which tend to use lower quality materials in their comfort layers which are a weak link in most of their mattresses (see the guidelines here). Even their “so called” latex mattresses have several inches of lower quality polyfoam in the top layers which will generally soften and break down long before the latex underneath and this can lead to the loss of comfort and support much too quickly (which isn’t covered by a warranty … see post #174 here).

Thanks for the homework! I admit that I learned a great deal over my last purchase. I live in Waukesha, WI (53188), and would welcome any dealer/vendor recommendations you may have. I am not beholden to a major manufacturer, and would simply like to duplicate the performance we had. If we can improve on that and cool things down a bit, so much the better.
