looking at these 2 covers for my kids 6 inch latex mattress. They both seem to be organic cotton but SLAB one is not washable while the DIY Natural bedding cover is prewashed and washable. What makes them different? Anyone have any experience with either of them? The SLAB cover is about $50-60 cheaper.
This cover is not washable because it is made from 100% organic cotton that has not been treated with any chemicals to help it resist shrinking or damage. Not even a minimal about that would still allow it to meet the organic requirement. Washing it in a machine or soaking it in water could cause the fabric to stretch, shrink, or lose its shape, making it hard to fit properly on your mattress again. The material is also unquilted and unlined, which means it doesn’t have extra layers to help it hold up during washing, meaning there is no real structure to the cover.
In addition, the zipper and stitching, while strong and high quality, are not made to go through a washing machine. Washing could wear out or damage these parts over time. Since the fabric is very absorbent and not waterproof, it could also take a long time to dry, which may lead to mold or mildew. That’s why the company recommends only spot cleaning and using a waterproof cover on top if needed.
Hope this helps,
Maverick
thanks for the reply.
would you recommend one over the other? I need to buy one soon. Can’t decide without seeing them in person.
I like one that can be cleaned via washing
