Hello TD-Max and thanks for the post! I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’ve encountered but we would be happy to get this taken care of for you since we absolutely stand behind our product during the entire 20 year lifetime of the mattress. Would you mind calling our customer service department when you get a chance? Our number is 623-299-9624.
A 2 zone would be his/hers. A 6 zone would be his/hers, but also have the center lumbar on it’s own divided chamber making 3 zones per side (technically 2 as head and feet are combined)
I did that when I first had issues with it softening. The issue is that it softens without sag so it’s not a warranty issue. I was sold a replacement layer. I had it special ordered at 25 ILD soft so that it started out a bit more firm than std. Enough to notice. Worked for a while then back to same issue. Replaced the medium and 25 ILD soft layers and a couple years later I’m in the same boat again.
One thought I had was to slip in a thin layer of 1/4" pegboard between layers 2 and 3 in the lumbar region and see what that does…
Here is a recap
Jan 2013 ordered 13000 mattress and foundation
July 2014 Soft layer replaced with 25 ILD
Sept 2017 25 ILD soft layer replaced again
Oct 2017 Med layer replaced because the soft layer replacement did not cut it.
Spring 2019 pain again
I must say when fresh it’s excellent for me as a back sleeper. A bit firm for her, but she just puts up with whatever I set up.
Hi again TD-Max, I just wanted to give you an update to let you know we’re shipping the zoned layers out to you this week and you should receive them some time next week. Of course we will email your tracking information once it ships so that you know exactly what day to expect it.

Thank you for the top notch customer service. To follow up on the zoning concept I will share my trials using a 2’x4’ piece of thin pegboard (presswood) that I used to test.
Test 1 was to put this between layers 2 and 3 and I centered it so it was under shoulders. Firmed up nicely and had an initially good feel. When I sat up I could definitely feel the upper layers bottom out. After a short period it became obvious that this was too firm. It had me out of alignment the opposite direction and gave low back pain with pressure pointing at my shoulders. I had to side sleep which I do not do well.
Test 2 is what I am currently using. I relocated the panel to between layers 3 and 4 and shifted downward to the foot of the bed to allow my shoulders to use the full stack layers. This has done very well so far. I probably could downsize the board and cover just the middle section, but I do not think that my feet carry enough weight to make any difference.
Something that I would consider so minor-stiffening the bottom layer of X firm foam really did do wonders for me. My low back alignment is definitely very sensitive to change. If i had a sealed mattress I’d be shopping for a whole new setup again.
Well thank you so much for the kind words! And i’m very glad to hear that you’ve found some temporary relief, but I’m really looking forward to hearing what the zoned layers do for you, since this would be more of a “traditional” setup without the need for pegboard or other non-mattress materials. They should be delivered to you by the middle or end of next week, and let us know how it goes!
Yes “traditional” will be nice. I’m just a troubleshooter/fixer by nature and not afraid to do unconventional things. Waiting for arrival of the shipment then I may have some questions as to how to proceed.
Zoning layers arrived from Sleepez a while back. Finally got time to install today and do a brief evaluation. Seems we are on the right track. Not perfect alignment, but seemed comfortable enough.
My layout:
Zoned head to foot: S25/Medium/S19 (tried S19 head S25 foot briefly and did not like it)
Medium
Firm
XFirm
With the above setup my shoulders and hips sink in nice and have what seems to be decent alignment. From hips to knees I appear to incline somewhat and knees to feet decline somewhat. Essentially my legs are “on” the mattress while my torso is “in” the mattress. I suspect this is common so I’ll try it this way and see how it sleeps. I’m kind of wondering though if my zoning wouldn’t maybe be best down in the lower foundation layers.
