Texas Mattress Makers Rome and Florence

We went into Texas Mattress Makers today and narrowed it to the Rome and the Florence. Does anyone know what they are compatible to in the market?

Hi MMdennis,

It’s not really possible to make close comparisons between mattresses unless they have the same materials, components, and designs and it’s not likely that you will find two mattresses that are exactly the same so in most cases the best you can do is make some very general comparisons with other mattresses that are in the same general category and that use the same type and quality of materials (see this article)

In very general terms … the Rome is a hybrid “coil on coil” mattress that has a Quantum pocket coil (with very narrow diameter coils and a high coil count) as a support core and a softech low profile coil and memory foam in the comfort layers so you could make some very approximate comparisons to other similar mattresses that used these 3 main materials and components. Shorter pocket coils that are used in the top layers of a mattress are also called microcoils and they are also a good quality and durable component that wouldn’t be a weak link in the mattress. You can read more about microcoils used in comfort layers in this article and in post #8 here and post #2 here.

The Florence is also a hybrid mattress and has a Quantum pocket coil support core as well but it has a latex comfort layer instead of a microcoil and memory foam so this would be more of a latex/pocket coil hybrid. As you probably know from your reading here latex is among the most durable foam materials used in the industry.

There is more about the different ways that one mattress can “match” or approximate another one in post #9 here.

There is also more about the most important parts of the “value” of a mattress purchase in post #13 here that can help you make more meaningful quality/value comparisons between mattresses.
