The 10 in. Tuft & Needle Diary

Hi sleep2nite,

I’m sorry to hear that your mattress didn’t work out as well as you hoped but as you know that’s the “value” of a good return policy where you can use your actual sleeping experience to assess whether a mattress is a good match for you.

I’d say that’s a very good indication that it’s time for a new mattress yes

Your own careful testing for PPP using the testing guidelines in the tutorial post will be the most reliable way to assess whether a mattress is a good match for you (see post #4 here and mattress firmness/comfort levels in post #2 here) but while this may have relatively high odds of success … it isn’t perfect and if you aren’t confident that your testing will do a good job of predicting your sleeping experience then just like with the online purchase you made I would factor in the options you have after a purchase as part of the “value” of your purchase so that the risks of making a “less than ideal” choice are lower. There is more about the most important parts of the “value” of a mattress purchase in post #13 here.

If you choose a mattress that is very different from what you are used to then it may take a little longer than normal for your body to adjust to a new sleeping surface or a different types of mattress (see post #2 here) because your body may have “learned” to get used to sleeping out of alignment and there may be some muscle memory or sleeping memory that needs to change (see posts such as the first part of post #7 here and post #4 here) but if the mattress it a good match for you and there are no other health issues involved that can complicate matters then the outcome at the end of the break in and adjustment process is usually much better and healthier sleep than before.
