If you’re thinking about creating an angled platform for a mattress, I’d suggest skipping the DIY route of cutting the legs, as that could be more challenging than it seems. Instead, go to Home Depot and have them cut a triangle-shaped wooden frame to the angle you need—it’ll be much easier. You can then place that frame on top of a KD-style box (the kind that comes apart for easy storage). The box should have a slight slope at one end to create the incline, and you can just secure the triangle frame to it. To keep the mattress from sliding off, add a mattress stop bar at the foot of the frame, like what you see in adjustable bases. You can use a simple piece of wood or metal for that. Once everything’s assembled, you’ll have a solid base with the incline you need, without the hassle of cutting or modifying the legs. Just be sure everything is securely fastened, and maybe add some non-slip pads or grip material under the mattress to keep it in place. This way should be much easier to put together!
I’m trying to envision this and can’t see where the bed’s legs are. Can you provide some links to a “triangle-shaped wooden frame” and a “KD-style box” to give me an idea of what you have in mind?
Also, I am homebound, so I’ll have to hire a carpenter to do all of this for me. I had definitely researched the addition of a stop bar at the foot of the frame. My current incline insert causes the mattress to shift downward a lot.
This is not something I have done, but envisioned it being done. The best way I can describe it is if you think of a KD style box, which could easily be placed on most any bed frame. Then you image the rize or the insert you linked a picture to, except it was made from wood (a triangle made from wood at whatever angle you prefer), like the same material as the KD box. Then sit the triangle (which spans the length of the box, rather than just the top third) directly on the KD box, screwing it into the KD box, it would become a permanent box w/triangle attached on top, so the mattress would lay flat on the triangle and not be bent like an adjustable bed would cause it to be. Much like a high lo adjustable that tilts the entire flat surface on an angle.
Thanks for trying to problem solve, Mavrick. This kind of wooden insert is sold online, like this one from CPS Wood Products. I had considered this early on in my search, but I really need a whole new mattress and foundation and would like to avoid the insert option.
That is exactly what i was trying to describe!
I had not see them before.
