Therapedic

I need information on the Therapedic Mattresses, I have seen some good reviews and several bad as well. They have a special line called Therapedic Medicoil, does anyone have information on this company and these mattresses. Thanks

Hi miwillia,

Therapedic is a national licensee group that includes many privately owned factories that in some cases make their mattresses differently in different areas of the country (see post #5 here).

The only way to make meaningful comparisons between any mattress or be able to assess the relative quality or value of a mattress is by knowing the specifics of its construction and the materials and components that are inside it. the name of a manufacturer is much less important than the specifics of the mattress itself because all manufacturers make lower and higher quality mattresses that use lower or higher quality materials.

The good news is that many of the Therapedic licensees are more open and transparent about the specifics of their mattresses than many other larger manufacturers that are in the top 15 manufacturers by volume.

Outside of careful and objective testing for PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences) and cost of course … one of the most important parts of a mattress purchase is knowing the specifics and quality of the components in a mattress so you can identify any potential weak links in the mattress and make meaningful comparisons with other similar mattresses.

Mattress reviews are among the worst ways to choose a mattress because they usually don’t include the quality of the materials inside the mattress so they don’t have any information about the quality of the mattress (a mattress is only as good as its construction, design, and the quality of the materials inside it) and what works well for one person in terms of PPP can be very different from what works well for the next. There is more about the difference between reading mattress reviews and more meaningful mattress research in post #13 here.

Just in case you haven’t read it yet … the tutorial post here has all the basic information, steps, and guidelines that can help you make the best possible choices.

If you can post the specifics of any of the Medicoil mattresses you are considering (which your retailer should be able to provide you) I’d be happy to make more meaningful comments about the quality of the materials inside it and any potential weak links in the mattress if your retailer doesn’t have the knowledge or experience to provide you with this information. The Medicoil line includes a range of different quality mattresses and some of them are two sided which means that they would be more durable than a one sided mattress that uses a similar design and quality of materials.

You really need to reply upon the information that your local retailer provides, as the different Therapedic licensees vary quite a bit in the product they produce. DO NOT strictly go by what the national website says. Also, different licensees will produce beds with differing levels of attention to detail (like all brands), so you really need to take a look at the product in your local retailer and make sure you’re getting complete information. If you don’t get the information you desire, find another Therapedic retailer. And as Phoenix linked in his reply, look at the tips on how to compare different foams and innerspring units. The review you read are worth just about what you paid for them - zero. Do your own due diligence.

Good luck!
