Too Good to be True?

I just came back from MySleep furniture in Toronto. Found them in the Factory Direct Mattresses in the Toronto, ON and GTA area thread. As stated they seem to have good/quality value.

One of the most expensive mattress they carry is a latex hybrid but it is only $445 cdn for a double with the box.
Here is a link to all the foam mattress they carry, the latex hybrid is at the bottom of the page.

  • Thickness: 11"
  • 8" High Density Foam + 3" Natural Latex Foam
  • Firm
  • Organic Cotton Fabric
  • 2 Years Pro- Rated Warranty
  • Matching color box
  • Made in Canada

The high density foam is 2lb and the latex is Talalay.

The manufacture is Cozy located in Mississauga. I cannot find a web site for them however.
Is this too good to be true? For this price a high quality memory foam 5lb topper could be added and still be an inexpensive mattress.

Hi Straffer44,

If the specs are correct and there is really 3" of latex (which they told me was Talalay latex when I called them) over an 8" 2 lb high density polyfoam base layer then these would be good quality materials and there would be no weak links in the mattress.

Having said that … the price they are charging would also give me pause because the price for this type of mattress would normally be much higher than this so I would want to do a little more due diligence to confirm with the manufacturer that these are really the materials that they are using in their mattress and that it’s a new mattress using new materials and not a rebuilt mattress.

There is a Cozy Corner Bedding Corp in Mississauga that manufactures mattresses and they do make a latex hybrid mattress but when I called them they told me that if this was one of their mattresses that it would be selling for more than twice the price. They also told me that you could call them and talk with someone there who would try and confirm what may be happening and whether this mattress was one of theirs and was a legitimate purchase (the person you would need to talk to was gone for the day). They also have a furniture store at the same address but it doesn’t have any information about their mattresses which are sold wholesale.

If I was in your shoes I would check with the actual manufacturer because these are prices that would certainly be somewhat of a caution or a red flag for me.

I would also congratulate you for having the good sense to check whether this was legitimate

Well I phoned Cozy Corner Bedding Corp yesterday (Tues) and was told the mattress dept was on break and to call back. Phoned back today (Wed) and was put on hold only to drop the call.

The mattress in question is not currently in stock in a double until Friday at MySleep Furniture. Maybe I should drive directly to Cozy first and see what I can find out. I live about 2hrs away from them.

Hi Straffer44,

If you are seriously considering this mattress then this would probably be a good idea so you can make sure that it’s a good match for you in terms of PPP. It would also give you a chance to check the law tag on the mattress to see what materials are listed on the law tag, the manufacturing date, and the name of the manufacturer and the model so you can confirm that it comes from Cozy Corner Bedding Corp and tell them the name of the specific mattress when you do have a chance to talk with them (which I would also make sure that you do).

There are some significant red flags here and I would proceed with caution.

I’m looking forward to finding out about your experience and whether this is legitimate and of course your experience will also be helpful to other members that may be considering them as well.
