Seems like the same thing to me? They are about 3" apart. Thinking of putting some reinforcement in middle in case there is some sagging.

Yes … a platform bed with wood slats will work just as well as a slatted wood foundation as long as the slats are suitable for your mattress and there is good center support to the floor (see the foundation post here for more information about box springs, foundations, and platform beds).
