I’ve been on a mission to find a mattress that’s comfortable enough for those who end up sleeping 12 hours straight (yes, I’m guilty
). After checking and reading tons of reviews, I narrowed it down to these 4 mattresses that really stand out in 2025 for long, comfortable sleep and link from The Wire Cutter there is no promotion I just copied from their site to help you find exact product:
- **[Saatva Classic] – Great balance of support and plush comfort, perfect if you like a slightly firm feel but still want cushioning.
**[Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud]
Premier 13" Full Mattress* – A hybrid build that stays cool even during marathon sleep sessions.
Nectar Premier Copper – Plush yet supportive memory foam, great motion isolation, and a cooling layer for all-night comfort.
Everyone’s preference is different, but these four seem to tick most boxes for comfort, support, and durability. If you’ve found something better for long, deep sleep, I’d love to hear your recommendations too.
My experience with memory foam, even “cooling” memory foam, is that it does not actually sleep cool. At least, not cool enough for me. I run hot all day, and especially all night. When you first touch a cooling memory foam mattress, it’s normally cool to the touch, but once you’re laying in it for a time, especially once there’s bedding involved, your body heat soaks in. Since memory foam isn’t breathable (and is derived from petroleum), all that heat has nowhere to go. So it surrounds you as you sink into the foam. For me, that’s intolerably hot and extremely uncomfortable. YMMV.
Cooler options would include a mattress with coils: either an old school innerspring style, or a hybrid with latex. Or, an all-latex mattress. These are cooler because their structure allows for air to circulate and carry away excess heat and moisture. There are plenty of benefits to an all-natural mattress, but the not-as-hot aspect is a key one for me. I also appreciate that natural-material mattresses use wool instead of fiberglass as a fire barrier layer. A latex mattress can also last much longer than a memory foam version. I just replaced a 6ish year old memory foam mattress that I hated with an all-latex mattress from SleepEZ. I expect this to last twice as long, as an absolute minimum. I’m hoping for more like 15-20 years, especially since our mattress is adjustable over time - I can swap in and out layers to keep the comfort and support I need. That adjustability is awesome. I’m already starting to sleep better on my new bed, and I can look forward to better sleep for years to come, even if my needs change.
I can only speak from my own personal experience, but you’re here, so I’d suggest poking around the forums here, and seeing what some of the companies represented here can do for you. There might be something much better than what you’ve found so far. There was for me!
Good luck finding the perfect, 12-hour sleeptime bed.
