I have a 2 inch thick, queen sized piece of 4 lb memory foam that I want to put in storage for a while as I’m back sleeping on an old simple latex mattress. The memory foam has been loosely rolled up in the floor for a while now, is in the way all the time, and is getting dusty laying on the floor.
I understand the best way to store a memory foam topper is flat but that isn’t possible, and even storing it loosely rolled up is difficult as it’s so big. I’m in a small home so storage space is a premium. Even if it was cut in half it would be easier to store rolled up.
Does anyone have any suggestions please? I need my floor space back! Thank you.
I have a temperpedic 3" thick memory foam topper from my previous mattress that my wife absolutely hated. Slow swallowing quicksand. Anyway, I purchased a mattress topper encasement.Topper Encasement. I put the topper in that and rolled it and put it back half in the box (yeah I saved the box) and stood it in a corner in the basement, until the weight tipped it over and now it is rolled lying in a corner. When it is encased, it makes it easier to roll, and store. I would not use a big rubber band, but if you have a wide belt or something of that sort, you should be fine. Flat is definitely better, but if it is rolled with a cover on it, and you dont use rope, which will burn a slice in it, you should be fine.
All the best,
Norm
Thanks for the welcome! That’s a great looking cover. I picked up a plastic mattress moving bag to put it in. It’s too bad I didn’t think of it earlier as I had a box from a tent that was probably close to the correct size even. Hind sight
Do you, or anyone else, know if it would affect use afterwards if I cut it down the middle? I know that there are split tops for diy layered mattresses but am not sure about cutting it as it would be the top layer. Thanks
There is really no magic to cutting the topper down the middle. Although, it could be a bit tricky to get it perfectly even. When they do it at the factory, it is like a giant band saw and it makes a nice perfect cut. Not sure what you will do with 1/2 of queen, unless you are purchasing another queen sized of a different firmness and plan on cutting that in half and then placing it in the encasement to keep it together.
The answer is yes, you can cut it as it will not affect the structure or durability of the foam.
