8 inch all medium dunlop mattress

I am looking to buy a mattress for my 100lbs teenager (who could grow to 140lbs).

I am considering buying the mattress components from the foam factory. They have latex cores only in medium firmness (ILD 29). Their mattress cover only supports an 8 inch mattress.

  1. The first option is to buy the following config from the foam factory: 3in med (top layer), 6in med (base layer). I am not sure whether the 6in base layer is made of 2 3in layers glued to each other. Does the bottom layer have to be firm? Would this configuration have any problems in comfort or longevity?

  2. Another option is to buy a 2in firm layer from another company. In this case, the configuration will be 6in med (top/middle layer), 2in firm (bottom layer). What will be the implications of having a 2 inch firm bottom layer? Most of the configurations have a 3 inch bottom layer.

The mattress will go on a full plywood base.
