I just made a large purchase online on a latex topped mattress after sleeping on spring mattresses all my life. I was initially tempted to buy a TP. My last thousand $ big box spring mattress only lasted 1 year before significant sagging and ensuing back pain. Hundreds $ crib mattress needs to be replaced after 6 months of occasional uses (including the child jumping while in the crib). Meanwhile my childhood twin spring mattress (20 years old) is still being used. What happens to durability these days. Will see how it goes. Thank’s Phoenix for the wealth of info here.

In the mainstream industry as a whole, the quality of construction and materials has certainly gone downhill in the last 20 years unfortunately. The exceptions tend to be the smaller manufacturers who still build high quality and more durable mattresses.
