First of all, thanks to Phoenix and all of the forum members here for so much helpful discussion and guidance. Mattress research has been a very challenging endeavor indeed, but this site has helped us narrow down our choices dramatically. After testing out many beds locally, we found that we tend to prefer the contouring of memory foam but that some polyfoam mattresses provide similar levels of contour but with more softness and responsiveness. Unfortunately most of the local options that we really liked had half a dozen layers of unknown quality and thickness polyfoam and maybe a bit of memory foam sprinkled throughout.
We decided to look a bit online and, going off of the suggested online retailers from this site, we narrowed it down to the tuft and needle 10 and the ultimate dreams supreme gel memory foam. Both seem to be of high quality materials and the queen size of both is right in our price range. It was a bit of a toss up, with each one having certain pros over the other. For the UD supreme it was the fact that we could try a comparable mattress at a local big brand dealer (the tempurpedic cloud supreme). Reviews of the mattress say that it is a pretty decent comparison, and we found the tempurpedic to be quite comfortable. For the tuft and needle we were a bit concerned by the lack of any similar comparison mattresses, but the fact that we can return it with no cost allays some of that fear. In the end we have decided to go with the tuft and needle 10 in hopes that our slight preference for polyfoam over memory foam will leave us loving it. Here’s hoping!
