Adjust Spindle Mattress or Buy New?

We have a six year old Spindle (king) for my wife and I. My wife (side/stomach sleeper) is 5’4 + 125 lbs and I (side sleeper) am 5’10" + 175 lbs. I am hoping to have a little more comfort on my side and she likes it extra firm.

My shoulders & arms fall asleep every night and I’ve tried several pillows. It feels like the mattress on my side is too firm and I’ve tried several combinations of switching layers over the years. Spindle uses dunlop latex and it provides the firmness she prefers on her side. It it possible to swap out the top layer of my side with a 3" medium or firm Talalay layer from another manufacturer? We thought about a topper to my side but then we would have a different levels on the mattress. Otherwise we are looking at a few hyrbrids that offer split firmness: Luma, Sleep EZ & Nest.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi jt0330.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum. The short answer is yes! You can totally have Talalay on your side and it sounds like you’d benefit from the softer/squishier latex – of course, this is dependent on your mattress. I’m assuming it’s one that you can easily swap out layers on.

You can get a twin sized cut of latex in your preferred ILD from Arizona Premium or DIY Mattress

I hope this helps!
