I would eventually like to get a adjustable foundation since I have acid reflux and also like to sit up in bed to read. I am exploring innerspring, latex/foam, and hybrid mattresses. I was told by one sales person that a mattress with innersprings would not lend itself to the adjustable frame as after a while the springs would start to squeak, etc. Any views on that??
Thank you.
Hi Diana219,
It would depend on the type of innerspring and on the specifics of the mattrress. Most pocket coil mattress will work well on an adjustable base (and wouldn’t generally have an issue with squeaking). There are also some type of innersprings that use connected coils (vs pocket coils) that are “hinged” that can work on an adjustable bed as well. Most foam mattresses are also suitable for adjustable beds as well as long as they aren’t too thick or stiff to bend with the adjustable bed (12" is a reasonable guideline)
I would make sure that you check with the retailer or manufacturer of any specific mattress you are considering to confirm that it’s suitable for an adjustable bed and that using it on an adjustable bed meets the terms of their warranty criteria as well.
