I purchased a natural latex mattress from Cozy Pure about 3 months ago (using my mattress underground discount- thanks!).
For the past 3 months, the mattress has made my my entire room smell. I had to buy a mattress cover just to help cover up the smell when I lay down I can’t describe the smell, but it is definitely worse than any other new mattress I have had. I have tried opening all the layers and “airing it out”, and even waited 3 months to let the smell go away, but nothing has worked. And can anyone give me advice? I already contacted the company to see if the cover is washable, but wanted to know if anyone has ever has this issue with all natural latex mattresses?
Hi Rew,
Natural Dunlop latex has a “rubber” smell that some people are more sensitive to than others and it can be stronger and longer lasting than Talalay. It will dissipate over time to levels that you are unlikely to notice and they are not harmful in any way.
Their suggestions would probably be the best of all since they are the most familiar with their own materials and mattresses and it would be good to know what they told you and any suggestions they made. It’s also possible that you have a layer that has a stronger odor than usual.
Post #3 here may also be helpful even though it’s more focused on the smell of polyurethane but the most effective way to eliminate odor is just time.

What helped with my purchase of an innerspring mattress (I am very sensitive to smell) was to buy a couple of very large cans of coffee from the supermarket. I opened the windows, opened the coffee cans and let them sit in the room for a couple of days. For some reason, that did the trick. Since I like the smell of coffee, it worked for me.
