Stats: 5’2", 130ish lbs, mostly side sleeper sometimes back
Hi everybody! as the title says I’m looking for a latex hybrid mattress for around $1000. I’ll be having surgery soon and will be bedridden for at least a month, so I’m trying to upgrade.
I currently sleep on an old ZINUS 12 Inch Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress and absolutely hate it. It somehow gives me shoulder and back pain. I don’t like how I sink into it with no push back. I’d like something with bounce/resistance and not center zoned/reinforced.
I previously had a SleepEZ select sleep hybrid that did not make it through a move. This was a while ago, but I remember liking it. I’m unsure if I should repurchase or go with something else. I guess my biggest confusions/questions/decisions right now are type/sizes of coils and if I should go with dunlop or talalay.
In addition to SleepEZ again I am also considering:
Arizona Premium Mattress Eco w/ CaliberEdge (would Bolsa be a noticeable improvement?)
I purchased the avocado green latex hybrid a week ago and haven’t slept since! Worst mattress for me ever lol I purchased an organic latex topper from them and moved it to the living room floor last night and slept better… so that is my temporary solution until I find the right all latex (most likely) mattress for me. I hope you find the perfect set up! It’s such an important decision and investment, and can be quite stressful too!
Sorry to hear you’re going to be bedridden, but great idea making sure it’s going to be a comfortable experience all things considered.
I will say, if you know you like it, it doesn’t hurt to buy from them again!
Dunlop and Talalay are often compared to pound cake (dunlop) vs angel food cake (talalay). Dunlop is more dense, where Talalay is springier and softer. For a comfort layer, I’d suggest Talalay, with Dunlop making up any additional layers in the mattress for support.
Honestly all fabulous options. I’d suggest reaching out to them independently and explaining the circumstances you’re facing so they can help you make the best selection from their collections.
What don’t you like about it? Im considering buying a latex (with coils underneath) mattress. I found it to be a little too firm for my taste but i also didn’t lay on it too long. (Not from Avocado, but a different local company).
It’s just everything that could possibly be wrong in a mattress lol Hard to explain. Avocado’s hybrid is firm, but you still sink in somehow… and it’s really bouncy. It just feels cheap. And for over 2k it shouldn’t! I personally know some people who LOVE it, and others who feel the same way I do. It’s so subjective when it comes to mattresses, everyone is so different. The avocado green mattress uses dunlop latex and the latex topper I purchased separately is also dunlop (and sadly didn’t help much). I am just not a spring in the bed type of person lol I tried all latex and it feels so much better to me. We shall see!
I took your suggestion, reached out, and received great advice from each company. I narrowed it down to the Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion Hybrid or Arizona Premium Mattress Eco Sleep (Ken recommended the #28 Medium w/ Bolsa coils based on our convo). Now I just have to bite the bullet and choose one!
