After 26 years of marriage, we have decided to upgrade to a king! need your help

Looking at a Hybrid - latex on coils (maybe old fashion because coils are “old fashion”
6" Leggett and Platt Caliber Edge
3" Dunlop Firm Talay (38ILD

Sleepers
5’8" 190 husband
5"3" 200 me (thank you menapause)

Sleep Style
me - major side sleep, never on my back. sleep apnea and fat. so side sleeper, tossing and turning most nights.
husband - side sleeper but ends up on his back, snores then I tap him and he rolls to his side. (coming from a sleep apnea snoring crazy perimenopause chick?)
I sleep “hot” - thank you perimenopause!
husband just sleeps, falls asleep in 2 minutes. after vacationing every summer with king size bed, he now wants one because we have our space (i think because I toss and turn)

Lower Back/Hip Pain
My current mattress is giving me lower back, hip pain from what feels like pelvic tilt. I readjust most nights to relieve the pain.

Any input, ideas - welcomed.

Anyone out there in IL purchase Sterns & foster Lux Cassatt plush mattress from ABT? wanting to hear your experience and feedback.

Hey dhcoupons,

Welcome to The Mattress Underground  ! Thanks for dropping by and for your question.

Congrats on your new mattress shopping adventure  . Can you tell us more about what you’re describing here? Is this a hybrid mattress that you’re considering or a proposed DIY build? You did mention an upgrade to a king size mattress but don’t mention a budget. If you are describing a hybrid mattress that you have interest in and want to understand its durability potential for you and your husband, please tell us what brand and model hybrid you’re considering so we can look a little more at all ingredients involved.

Thanks for including both of your personal stats with your post, dhcoupons. As you both are side sleepers of somewhat higher BMIs, know that heavier bodies need thicker and firmer comfort layers generally speaking, with support layers and materials that are also appropriate to the comfort layers and type of mattress construction. Sorry to hear that you’re dealing with sleep apnea and perimenopausal symptoms side by side; that must be a terribly frustrating recipe for constant sleep disruption for you. Given your particular health concerns, a latex hybrid mattress should be a good fit for you both. Latex, with its open-cell structure, provides natural air circulation and cooling properties to the mattress’s comfort material, while good quality pocket coilsoffer a good response range, good shape conforming abilities, as well as promoting air circulation of the mattress’s support core. The combination of these materials in a king size format should allow plenty of space for you each to sleep in a more cooling environment with an improved feel of motion separation.

I am sorry to learn of your additional lower back and hip pain development from your current mattress. What brand and type is it and how old is it? What qualities does it have that you like and which ones would you avoid in the future? As for the second post regarding consumer feedback on the S&F Lux Cassatt/ plush, we’ll hang on for a bit and see if someone responds to your q’s. Looking forward to hearing more about your research when you have time… .

Thanks,
Sensei
