i’ve seen a few posts from people concerned about sweating and being concerned about ruining their mattress cover over time.
i spoke with Tuft and Needle earlier today and was told that they do sell replacement covers (although they are not listed on their site).
Prices begin at $100 (twin size).
While most people would use a removable mattress protector to protect their mattress from the body oils and fluids that we all release each night and from spills and accidents and to keep their sleeping surface in a clean and hygienic condition … it’s nice to know that if something does happen that they can replace the cover.
I am one of the ones that has tried a number of mattress protectors, including two different very thin polyurethane sheet type protectors , and all of them interfer with the mattress feel too much for me.
What I ended up doing was buying a large piece of organic flannel fabric, and made my own minimal protector for just the top. I have found that I can sleep with two flannel sheets okay, so figured this would work okay, and so far so good. I encased the edges so the flannel can be washed. I still have one of the polyurethane mattress protectors, and I’m going to cut it in half and sew half of it on my husband’s side- he doesn’t seem bothered with any pads I’ve put on.
It is comforting to know that Tuft and Needle sells replacement covers because my handmade flannel protector as it is now is not at all waterproof, and it may take me a few more months to get to sewing the waterproof piece onto my husband’s side.
For people that may not know: underneath the knit cover is a very thin “sock” that is the silica fire barrier. Hopefully if the outer cover needs to be changed, the fire barrier won’t rip or otherwise be compromised…
