American Sleep Therapy

Does anyone have any experience with American Sleep Therapy mattresses and beds?

Hi MSF,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum!

American Sleep Therapy is a distributor of mattresses and adjustable bed bases, most notably in the Northeast United States. Their primary focus seems to be trade and home shows, and they also have a mobile RV that I believe they drive to people’s homes in their area. Their business address is a residential home, and they’re owned by Joseph Greely. Their website lists no meaningful information about the mattresses they distribute, so before even considering them you’d want to learn of the specifications of their mattresses, and I’d also advise you to seek out the source of their products/foams (who is making their mattresses for them, import or domestic).

If you find out this information and post it back here, I’ll be happy to do my best to comment upon it for you.

Thank you for this information. My friend stopped at the AST booth yesterday at the Denver Home Show. Now I know they are totally full of BS.

You are correct, there are only residential addresses listed. I’m finding multiple addresses on Google, the Better Business Bureau & the AST website. They are all houses!!! Who lists a house as a mattress business?

Where is the factory where the mattresses are made? Are they making them in the garage or basement?

According to the salesman, EVERY part of the mattress is made in the US - fabric, foam, stitching, construction, etc. So, how is that possible if there is NO US factory? Can you say made in CHINA and shipped to the US?

This company - American Sleep Therapy - sounds very fishy to me!!!

Hi ISki2.

All of these are very good questions … on one of AST’s associated sites you can see this year’s mobile showroom “demo” locations, but the information provided anywhere has little to no meaning at all. Their salespeople might not necessarily be mattress people and like you I would be cautious of their “selling” based on marketing stories and I would want to know exactly where they are sourcing their foams and the specifics.

Although AST is on the other end of the spectrum with their rather unusual business model your observation is a common comment from people coming to our site, and unfortunately most online sites choose to focus on reviews/testimonials, opinions, and subjective stories and tell you “what” to choose instead of providing objective information about a product that empowers and allows you to know “how” to choose. This is the part of the research that you can’t see or “feel” and assessing the durability and useful life of a mattress depends on knowing the specifics of its construction and the type and quality of the materials inside it regardless of who is selling it or how a mattress feels in a showroom so I would always make sure that you find out the information listed hereso you can compare the quality of the materials and components to the durability guidelines here to make sure there are no lower quality materials or weak links in a mattress that would be a cause for concern relative to the durability and useful life of a mattress before making any purchase.

I had dealings with this company yesterday at the Barrett Jackson Northeast Car Show in CT. Unfortunately, we purchased one of their products with a credit card. We were told by the salesman that they manufactured their product in Chelsea, MA and that they supplied many other Mattress Companies with their product. When I pressed them on this info, they were very quick to change the subject. I checked the manufacturing label on their mattress and it did say Chelsea, MA.
Upon doing some additional research today, there is not plant in Chelsea and all of the addresses listed for their business are residential. They claim that the pedestals that are made for their beds are made in Kentucky. No such plants exist in Kentucky and I have been advised that ALL of the mattress companies in the U.S. utilize pedestals or bases from either China or Vietnam…non are built in this country.
Long story short, I am now trying to cancel my order and they are not responding. I will try my credit card company again tonight…
Buyer Beware !!!

Hi MRHTRD.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum!

Thanks for adding your experience, research, and comments to this thread. You are correct that any information about their products/foams sourcing can tell a great deal about the quality of their componentry. All in all, there seem to be too many red flags connected with the company.

I’d be curious to know how easy it is to get a refund from AST.

Phoenix

Hello Phoenix. My name is Joseph Greeley. I am the owner of AMercian Sleep Therapy. I’m very upset with some of the things I’m reading about on these threads that you have started against me and my company. I’m wondering who you are, and what you have to gain by targeting a small family owned company, that employs hard working people that make an honest living selling our beds. In reality, from what I’m reading you know nothing about our company, what we stand for, and what we sell. Again, I’m wondering what you have to gain in this??? To set you record straight we are indeed a company that employs men and woman that sell and distribute a very fine mattress and sleep system. In some of the threads I read on here you are attending to punch holes in pretty much everything that makes us who we are. You make aqusations that imply that we are not from the towns that we say we are from, you also imply that our mattresses don’t come from chelsea Massachusetts, you go on to make allegations that just are not true. Again as I’m writing this I wonder what kind of a person tries to harm a very small company, that goes to work everyday to make a living, and simply feed our families. But to answer to some of these outrageous aqusations we purchase our mattresses from a well know mattress manufacturer from none other than Spring Air mattress company. And yes they are from CHELSEA MASSACHUSETTS! You then want to punch holes in where the foam is made and you imply that we probably get our foam from over seas. Well again, you are wrong. Our foam comes from a company in Pennsylvania names Carpenter. They last time I took geography Pennsylvania was indeed in the United States. The puzzling part of all of this is if you actually took the time and circled back to the 2 or 3 people you found to write bad things about our company you would find that more than likely when they contacted me about being unhappy with making a purchase with us after getting all twisted up after getting involved with you and this website they probably got a full refund and the sales order was terminated. We only want to do business with folks that are comfortable with us. But all you want to post is the negative material that has been generally started by you. Yet again I find myself wondering what your angle is in this?? I am most certainly going to move forward on Monday looking into my legal rights I have in this rediculous website for which you have included me personally and my company for which I protect the integrity of and the hard working men and woman that work here. Why don’t you take time and speak to the 10’s of thousands of people that love us, and our mattresses. You decided to create some nonsense with people that again probably got refunds. Again I will be seeking legal action against you very soon. Should you have any other questions that you just need answers to feel free to contact me at [email protected]

I did purchase a bed from them in January. So far, everyone is correct that you cannot find the location of their production. From their website: " American Sleep Therapy is a nationally recognized distributor of the finest sleep systems in today’s marketplace."
So… in my opinion, they are possibly setting specs for the product and manufactured for them under their name. Also, the frames are made in Kentucky… manufactured by Leggett and Platt and is the Prodigy Comfort Elite model which I believe is top of the line.
Now my review: I usually do my research, and did not in this case. The bed was delivered (free of charge) in about 6 weeks after it was ordered. I was told it would be 4-6 weeks, so when I received my phone call regarding delivery, it was expected. They came on time, set it up, tested all the controls, then explained them briefly. I have had a chronic lower back pain for the past 10 years, and attributed it to arthritis…however, after sleeping on the bed and adjusting back/feet to relieve pressure points, I was amazed, as after the 3rd night, my lower back pain disappeared! As a test for my back, I did a major detailing (was/polish/vacuum/etc) on my wife’s car the next weekend. Usually, after, it was gulp down 800mg of ibuprofen and lay flat for the rest of the day. The great news, was I was NOT in pain after that, did my car the next day and also a 3 mile run. So, pretty much what the salesperson described with the bed worked out to be true. However, If I did a similar setup with the frame and another type of mattress, would it work out the same?? A co worker had just purchased a $10k bed from a leading manufacturer, and has totally regretted it, so other than the usual buyer’s remorse I originally felt, I am currently satisfied with the bed. My wife also agrees, as she has had a previous neck injury, and is sleeping much better when the pressure points can be relieved by adjusting the bed. And… after 2 months, my lower back pain is still nonexistent.

Hi Maintree,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum! :).

Thank you for the update/review of the product you purchased. I assume it was an adjustable bed base from AST. Can you help our other consumers by letting us know what model you purchased? What mattress are you using with it? Did you buy the “bed system”?

It’s awesome that your ack feels so much better. Can you please please detail my car… Just kidding

Thanks
Sensei

I bought the bed system. The base is manufactured by Legget and Platt a well known name in the industry. The mattress, a split king, by further investigation is made in Canada, not the US as claimed. I flipped the mattress upside down and took pics of the tags. Literie Laurier a divisnon of Matelas Martin Inc (Quebec) All the tags have both English and French.

NOTE: I also see on their website that their website indicates below:
