Well, the inevitable happens. I say inevitable, because with me, there’s always bad luck abound. The mattress I purchased not 90 days ago, after months of research and time has broken, and the warranty with it.
About two days ago I was putting freshly washed linen on the bed and noticed there was a rip in the underside panel of fabric. This is a one sided mattress, so there is this felt/cloth hybrid along the bottom, sewn into the ticking. From the fraying of fabric in the tear, it looks like it was pulled from top and bottom. I’m not 100% sure how it happened, I know I didn’t do anything to abuse it, or anything unusual. The last time the mattress was moved, it was rotated per Restonic instructions and we were extremely careful to insert our arms to the bend (at the elbow) and lift. Not pull on the sides, for this reason.
I contacted the company I purchased the mattress from, a local dealer, and he has forwarded pictures to the Restonic rep. Over the phone, before looking at the photos, they assume I did this by tugging on the mattresses side seams, ripping the fabric, which means it’s not covered under warranty, and now - this has voided my warranty.
I financed this bed under no interest 90 days, and had 1 payment left before it would have been paid off. And here it is damaged. If something goes wrong, I’m screwed, really. Rather a sad turn for me, I was so thrilled with it.
At this point, I’m not sure if I should keep the bed or recycle it and just get another, knowing what I know now. Interestingly, unless I were buying a new mattress from one or two key brands, I wouldn’t spend more than $1000, next time around. It’s just not worth it.
