Anyone else have issues donating their barely used mattress?

I ordered a king size mattress from one of the online mattress companies. Unfortunately the mattress did not work out for us and I have to return it. The company asked me to donate it to a charity and send them the donation receipt.

Not sure this is a local issue or not: but I am having a very difficult time finding a charity who will pick up mattress from my house in New Jersey. I called 3 different nearby Salvation Army locations and a few other local charities and none of them accept mattress. (sanity concerns & local bed bug crisis) Since it’s a King size mattress, it’s big & heavy and very difficult to transport it with my personal vehicle.

How’s anyone else donation experiences? Should I push this problem back to the seller since I have already wasted a lot of time calling different local charities?

This is my first online mattress order, and I was not expecting this kind of return process. I thought they would arrange someone to pick it up from me. (I would be willing to pay them a fee for the return )

I am in NYC …no Mattress donations allowed here either.
You could let the seller know that it’s impossible to donate in your state and hopefully they will send Mattress recycling company to get it

Hi zw6233,

I would echo Ari’s comments. There are some local municipalities who have rules against mattress donations for various reasons, and it you finding it to be difficult to donate in your area, then I would definitely contact the seller and explain your situation, and quite often they will do exactly as Ari said (thanks Ari!).

One mattress company I was talking to said that the storage for charities were filling up and some were not accepting mattresses.
